How to Get There
I stayed here recently with my husband for a business event I attended in Sacramento. The hotel is nicely furnished and decorated with an ideal location on the river. I requested a complimentary upgrade to a river view given that I will be traveling more often to the area for business and wanted to try out their nice rooms for future visits. The front desk staff just upgraded my queen room to a king room and told me that the river view rooms would be $50 more. So he basically left a river view room vacant because he decided $50 more is worth more than my potential frequent patronage. A fail, in my opinion. So minus one star.
We enjoyed the nice bath and separate shower in our room. The bed was very comfortable. Overall a nice hotel but I’ll consider other Marriott properties in Sacramento for future business visits.
I’ve stayed several times at this hotel when visiting family in Sacramento. It is the closest hotel to my dad’s place. If there were cheaper and closer hotels I would still choose this one more often than not. The staff is very friendly and eager to help, the rooms are clean and the river views are lovely (especially in warmer months with weddings). Scott’s is a nice restaurant with great views and good food. They have worked to maintain the hotel nicely as well.
The hotel does not bill itself as a 5 star property, so my expectations are tempered here. When I’m pleasantly surprised by something I count that as a blessing. So while I don’t expect turndown service I do wish the Mr. Coffee makers in the rooms could be replaced with something that doesn’t spew water. The decor of the rooms is not really inviting - there is little on the walls. If you are put in a ‘handicapped’ room as we were (we are not disabled) the mirror above the desk will be hung too high to really make it usable. I do like the full length mirror in the hallway. Robes are soft (and it’s nice to have them). Bedding is very comfortable. Room 304 is noisy though - you can hear the heating and cooling all night long.
But the little annoyances aside, this is still the property prefer to stay at while in town. When I have a really early flight as I do next visit, however, I will be staying closer to the airport and wishing I was at the Westin.
It was an overall very good experience, but I really expected better in a few areas, especially for the price. Front desk staff and housekeeping were very friendly and welcoming, while chat support and room service staff need some training. The room was comfortable, clean, decorated on the plainer side and roomy, and the claw foot tub was really nice to soak in. While it had a mini-fridge, it lacked a microwave. Different room types available, some with balconies, some with windows that crack open and the hotel had a lot of nice amenities. Oddly located in a residential setting, it sits on the river with a 17 mile walking/bike trail and the seafood restaurant there has nice views of the docks, boats and water. Hotel has room service (very good food and well presented $$$) but I didn't see a gift shop or a coffee shop onsite. Parking was confusing and odd and unless you get lucky enough to get one of the close up spots, it's a long walk and may include some stairs depending on which side of the hotel you choose to enter from and where at in the parking lot you end up. Signage on the end of the building pointing out registration would have been helpful as would a little more light in the parking lot area. A bathroom nightlight would have also been welcomed and the temperature controls were not working right. I was too hot and put the ac on and it got hotter and I had to open the balcony door in the middle of the night to cool it down. Nice room amenities, bathrobes, bed and linens. Despite some of these annoyances, I might stay there again next time in town.
The room was clean and comfortable. There was a wedding going on that we could watch from the balcony. Our room with a view was really just a good seat at the wedding because of the reception tent. Luckily we loved the music choices for the reception so it didn't bother us. I see that the room charges are all over the place based on the dates. Our base for a king with a view was $450 too much given we felt like wedding guests. The staff was nice.
You have to call to get service at the pool and the prices are too high.
The food was excellent at Scott's!
Definitely find out if there is an event before booking. The noise didn't bother us but could have been an issue if we wanted to sleep early.
good for an overnight stay ... had to wait a very long time at airport for courtesy bus ... rooms nice and clean and quiet ... Restaurant serves breakfast and have an evening meal menu, one will not go hungry..
