How to Get There
I wanted to send a quick note of appreciation for all that was done to make our group’s stay at the Sheraton and Westin hotels in , Palo Alto, so memorable and enjoyable.
I was the lead travel arranger for a large event being held in early June in the Menlo Park area, and was tasked with finding hotels that could accommodate all of our event attendees. I was connected to Monica at the Sheraton and Westin, to book a room block for a group of roughly 150 people. From my very first interaction, Monica (and Angelica as well) were both so welcoming, responsive and easy to work with. And while I was never on site during the event itself, I am told that the staff members manning the front desk were incredibly helpful and professional as well. Both Monica and Angelica were very responsive when we had changes to our group reservations, and helped me to clearly communicate all the pertinent information to our group.
They were critical in helping to get all of our guests booked, and were incredibly patient when we had several last-minute changes. They were always positive and friendly, even when I'm sure my incessant communications about changes were probably driving them crazy!
Facilities wise, the hotels are both spotlessly clean. The hotel lobbies and common areas are large and well designed, the campus is easy to get around, and the rooms are large and comfortable. The location right on the CalTrain station is made is also very convenient. Our group was there for two nights, and the services remained at the highest level throughout the stay.
Coordinating a large-scale event like this is a lot of work, and the staff at the Sheraton and Westin, Palo Alto made the housing piece of it so easy for us, making the planning of the event that much less stressful. I'm grateful to every staff member we had interaction with, and for the quality of the hotels.
The Sheraton and Westin Hotels in Palo Alto are both examples of true hospitality.
The Westin is conveniently located just outside of University Ave on El Camino, which makes it easy to reach different points of interest such as Stanford, Stanford Mall, Palo Alto itself and the 101.
The hotel is dated and it shows on the in-room connectivity options, carpet and shower - it is still very functional and appropriate for a business trip. Front desk was courteous throughout the stay, but unfortunately couldn't offer me an upgrade (Gold status with Marriot) and put me in a room in the first floor that faces the main staircase - the poor sound isolation meant that I could hear loud conversations in the lobby and the staff preparing the restaurant in the early morning.
The bar in the lobby is small and provides a limited and standard choice of drinks and food which were decent. The parking lot is underneath the building and a bit cramped.
As a business traveler, I usually find Nobu/Epiphany at a similar rate, which offers much more than the Westin.
Palo Alto has a few hotels, most close to Stanford, some nicer ones like this one, The Four Seasons and The Clement and a bunch to stay far away from. For one night between California destinations this one worked out, but as Westins go we expected more, hence the three stars and not four. Yes, would stay there again - rooms were clean, workout room was nice - but also, hallways were not kept up, there were limited services and parking was underneath, $23 and tight. Having said all that the stay was issue free and late checkout was offered, so all good on that front. Also, the hotel is less than a mile from Stanford Shopping Center and if you do not have a car it is easily walkable. Do not stay at any of the lower end hotels, go for this one or the other two!
Just spent two nights at the Westin Palo Alto. After spending the same amount for half the time at an equivalent hotel in Cambridge, it was so refreshing to deal with such lovely staff. Every single person at the desk was outstanding, as was the restaurant staff. The location is great, across the street from Stanford's main entrance and an easy walk to downtown Palo Alto. The breakfast buffet was a great value and the remodeled public areas looked very nice. The rooms themselves are bit bland but they are spacious with a comfortable bed.
Hotel is across the street from Stanford University. The hotel is clean and all of the staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel has a pool and jacuzzi, but no spa, a limited bar, and one restaurant. Fewer amenities than many Westin properties.
