At the corner of a tree-lined street, Su Nido exemplifies the warmth that has long attracted Angelenos to this pint-size artist colony 90 minutes from Los Angeles. Quiet and intimate, the Su Nido is meant to feel like home, with plenty of Mission Revival character. Most of the property’s rooms are anchored by a sunny central cobblestone courtyard, a nice spot to linger over a bottle of Pinot Noir; two rooms are in an adjacent building. Spanish-style charm comes in the form of clay roofs, vaulted ceilings and mosaic-tiled baths. Meanwhile, plush beds, fireplaces, soaking tubs and stocked kitchenettes add a touch of luxury. Though there’s no on-site restaurant, you’re just a short walk from Ojai Avenue’s eateries, and the gregarious owners love to offer suggestions.
In the Area
Hike one of the area’s many paths, such as the easy 1.8-mile Shelf Road Trail. Check out the insane bounty of local seafood, fruit and honey at the Ojai farmers market, open every Sunday until 1 p.m. Dig into heirloom tomato salad and mushroom and Asiago cheese crostini at Suzanne’s Cuisine. Some of the best up-and-coming wineries are close by. Start by exploring the vineyards in the beautiful Santa Ynez Valley. Drive to Meditation Mount to catch the town’s famed “pink moment,” when the surrounding mountains and valley are cast in a rosy glow.
How to Get There
We are enjoying our week visit in Ojai primarily because of the beauty and hospitality of Su Nido Inn. The Cardinal Room far exceeded our expectations. The spaciousness and California decor are delightful.
Nice location close to downtown and nice helpful front desk...but I’d booked a particular room and they switched it on me to the one above the office - requiring I go up a steep flight of stairs w/my bags. The room I got had no windows that opened, so no ability for fresh air —only alternative was the leave the door open. Claimed that their ability to switch was in the fine print. Also I could never connect to the internet because its an insecure network so neither my IPhone or IPad would connect ...big pain. If you go, confirm that you will get the room you book.
Su Nido property and rooms are luxury in a small town nestled in nature’s valley. We stayed in February, arrived after hours (staff very helpful in getting our room ready and leaving instructions for entry. The room was a suite with beauty, comfort, spacious, fully equipped, clean, and having all amenities of a luxury hotel. So close to the center of Ojai, we walked everywhere.
