How to Get There
I had the pleasure of staying from December 12-15 on a timeshare stay. The hotel is pretty clean but is not an exclusive to ownership. What I mean they up-sale to the public. Be advised the Oceanside is home to military families. Anyway, like some of the tenets I was faced towards the back which the train Amtrak runs every hour 24 hours. So my friend if your thinking a restful sleep you'll won't get it here. Oh by the way to injury to insult they provide earplugs and sound-wave radio to help.
The beach and the surrounding are safe for kids but some areas can get aggressive. Last, you will smell weed smoke in the air its California what da heck live it up :)
The rooms in the back overlook the railroad tracks and trains the blare their extremely loud horns as they pass the resort every hour or more often than that, even at 4 am. The room comes standard with ear plugs. My studio room was 616A. I asked for a change of rooms every day during my three day stay and was denied, as they said they were full. The rooms in the front of the resort overlook the pier and ocean. The resort is close to places to eat and the breweries and pier, all within walking distance.
My son and I made a quick trip to Oceanside then Disneyland to celebrate my grandson's birthday. Having stayed at Wyndham OPR before it was a quick stop which was enjoyed for one day and then returned again three days later. The service is excellent as well as recommendations for the surrounding area. I did have a slight problem with someone lifting up my cover on the truck in the parking area. Nothing was back there but was reported to the resort. I would recommend that you try to get a room more up front if you don't like train noise.
I stayed at here this last week for 3 nights. Property was beautifully taken care of, staff was friendly..and for the most part helpful. Sadly, they put me off from the moment I checked in. Issue w booking, not their fault, handled smoothly...but here is where it went off the rails to me. They send me to a so called concierge desk to get my parking pass...what I get is a guy named Brett putting the squeeze on me to have 90 mins of my time to go through a time share pitch. Yes, they offer to comp me an evenings lodging to do so, but I tell him I'm don't have the time as I'm here to see my daughter and grandkids. He still pushes and I tell him he can have 30 mins, and that's all I'll give him. He says ok, but I know that he'll still press for the whole 90 mins.
Meanwhile, my reservation is set and I've upgraded to a one room unit. Clean, neats, and works for my needs. After being gone most of the day I come back to a room that hasn't been attended, this happens from time to time so I go down to the front desk to inquire. I'm told that the room doesn't have that, but for a small fee of 45 bucks they'll dane to come make my bed. What horsecrap! Mind you, for me it's not the $$$, but the stupidity of it. Talk about not being self aware.
Would I stay here again my next visit...I very much doubt.. Marriott will most likely get my biz.
If you want a very special vacation stay at the Wyndham Oceanside Resort. It is right across from the pier. To take a stroll down it is relaxing. At the end is Ruby's. It's a 50's deco restaurant. Malts, hamburgers, fish and chips. All marvelous.
Walk the beach and watch the surfing.
The stafff is extremely courteous, helpful and polite. If you're fortunate enough to stay in the Presidential suite..All is can say is WOW..All the amenities and luxury as well. Views of the ocean.
Very good restaurants within walking distance.
And there's a little blue house that the original Top Gun was filmed at.
