Bed and Bath
The 91 rooms and mini suites have a cozy compact feel. Look carefully for all the little upgrades and amenities: games and puzzles like an Etch-a-Sketch and Rubik’s cube in the ergonomic work desk; iPod docking stations by the beds; Egyptian cotton linens and plush bathrobes; and rain showerheads and luxurious Lather bath and body products in the bathrooms.
Start every morning with a free hot-and-cold breakfast buffet, where you can also grab some items to take on the go. Open from April through November, the seasonal outdoor pool and hot tub are rarely crowded, meaning a lounge chair is usually waiting just for you. Or get your exercise by working out in the small, but well-equipped fitness center.
In the Area
Hotel Avante sits right along El Camino Real, the main artery through Mountain View, a Silicon Valley hub that rubs shoulders with Palo Alto and Sunnyvale. Nearby high-tech company campuses include heavy hitters such as Google, Intuit and Symantec. About 1.5 miles away – a quick drive or bus ride – downtown Mountain View‘s pedestrian-friendly Castro Street is chock-a-block with bars, restaurants and shops. For entertainment, check what rock bands are playing outdoor concerts at the Shoreline Amphitheatre. Since Mountain View is located at the south end of San Francisco Bay, it’s only a 20-minute drive from downtown San Jose or about 45 minutes from the city of San Francisco, for more urban exploring.
How to Get There
Mountain View has no good hotels and those hotels it has are always really expensive, but I stay a lot, and move around, and this is an old favourite.
The rooms are fine.
The service is excellent.
The hot tub is great, but often closed - worth checking if this is important to you.
The breakfast room is aesthetically poor, but the food is fine.
I have stayed here a few times over the years and I came back, so for all my moaning, it must be okay, no?
The service makes up for a lot of the other small niggles.
I absolutely love this hotel! Amazing breakfast, comfy beds, cute design, warm welcome. Would definitely visit again. Nice n clean pool and hot tub, the airconditioning felt SOOOO GOOD after the event my friends and I attended. LOVE THIS PLACE :)
Clean, comfortable, and pleasant. Enjoyed the pool area. Good service. Several restaurants within walking distance. Not a luxury hotel; just a good, solid, well done value-for-money hotel with a touch of flair.
This is an older building that was likely originally an apartment building, so I understand there are limitations. However, the bed was uncomfortable (seems like a worn-out lumpy mattress). The AC was extremely loud (there are significantly quieter window ACs that you find at Courtyard type hotels) and didn't really cool to the other 65 degrees I set it at. The included breakfast is full of cheap unhealthy stuff (I didn't even bother with it on the second day); its likely better to have a smaller selection but go a bit upscale on the options. I am a Marriott Ambassador and typically stay at those hotels (btw, their options are nothing special in the area either) and recently signed up for a Hyatt Globalist challenge and thought would give this hotel a try since its very close to my office. I have stayed at 50+ Hyatts previously (though only Park/Grand/Regency) and the Avante appears to be more at the Courtyard by Marriott level hotel, so not a fair comparison to the previous Hyatt experiences. The staff has the right intention but appear to be poorly trained. And it does not seem like the hotel has thought through how to offer Hyatt elite benefits seamlessly (e.g. getting the bill corrected for water). I will give the hotel another shot next week given the very convenient location to my office and my need to get in 20 Hyatt nights within 90 days.
We came in after a long road trip and were greeted with courtesy. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. There were nice touches in little things, like complimentary coffee in the lobby, Q-tips and lush towels in the bathroom.
