Geek chic Silicon Valley gem for work or play with a music listening lounge and free wine happy hour

The Look

From burnt orange walls in the lobby, to colorful abstract art in the hallways, Hotel Avante has a playful tech-centric vibe fitting of its Silicon Valley location. Brainiacs meet up with colleagues at The Incubator, and future tech leaders chat over free wine happy hours Sunday through Thursday.

Bed and Bath

The 91 rooms and mini suites have a cozy compact feel. Look carefully for all the little upgrades and amenities: games and puzzles like an Etch-a-Sketch and Rubik’s cube in the ergonomic work desk; iPod docking stations by the beds; Egyptian cotton linens and plush bathrobes; and rain showerheads and luxurious Lather bath and body products in the bathrooms.

Start every morning with a free hot-and-cold breakfast buffet, where you can also grab some items to take on the go. Open from April through November, the seasonal outdoor pool and hot tub are rarely crowded, meaning a lounge chair is usually waiting just for you. Or get your exercise by working out in the small, but well-equipped fitness center.

In the Area

Hotel Avante sits right along El Camino Real, the main artery through Mountain View, a Silicon Valley hub that rubs shoulders with Palo Alto and Sunnyvale. Nearby high-tech company campuses include heavy hitters such as Google, Intuit and Symantec. About 1.5 miles away – a quick drive or bus ride – downtown Mountain View‘s pedestrian-friendly Castro Street is chock-a-block with bars, restaurants and shops. For entertainment, check what rock bands are playing outdoor concerts at the Shoreline Amphitheatre. Since Mountain View is located at the south end of San Francisco Bay, it’s only a 20-minute drive from downtown San Jose or about 45 minutes from the city of San Francisco, for more urban exploring.

Good for the price

Price was good considering that in this area most rooms are very overpriced. East to find, clean, and fully adequate for my one-night business stay. Breakfast selection was limited but free and good. I would stay here again.

Softball Team Stay

I have stayed at Hotel Avante before and am always happy to return. The hotel doesn't look like much from the outside but it is a great hotel inside, great rooms, great pool, great facilities, great little lobby, good breakfast and the staff (all of the staff) is always fantastic.

Renovations to Lobby Entry in process

It was a difficult entry process given that the front fascade of the Hotel was in the midst of a remodeling process. Checked into a sold-out, totally-booked establishment that was overrun with long-haired guys wearing tie-dyed shirts and talking about The Dead in concert.

Great Hotel

Great hotel, clean, very nice and friendly staff ! We were there for 3 days and it was my birthday. Nathan, from the front desk knew it and gave me a bottle of wine besides giving nice tips of the city. The hotel has a good breakfast, gym and a swimming pool + a spa. We had a great time there.

One night July 2

For one night it was fine. Service was great. The shower had fantastic pressure. Other than that, it's comparable to the Hilton Garden Inn next door. Great location with an incredible mini-mart/gas station right up the street.
