How to Get There
This hotel is located just outside of SFO. They provide airport shuttles, afternoon Happy Hour with wine, beer, sodas, cheese, crackers and dried fruit, and beautiful suites. My husband and I were in a 1 bedroom suite, that provided lots of room, a beautiful bathroom, and a living area, too. Due to its close proximity to the airport, and the convenient shuttle service, I will stay here again.
This is the second time we have stayed at the Westin near SFO: once was before we flew to Maui for a family vacation, and most recently, we stayed at the hotel after attending San Francisco Opera. The Westin SFO is much more than a hotel convenient to the airport. It is a wonderful place to enjoy the pool and hot tub, restaurants, and the entire San Francisco city and Bay Area. The lobby and public rooms have comfortable seating areas as well as wine and cheese reception on weekday afternoons. Guest rooms are spacious and quiet with excellent bedding and bathrooms. Airport shuttle bus stops every 15-20 minutes, and Palo Alto and San Francisco are a short 15-20 minute ride away by car. Hotel staff are friendly and accomodating to guests' requests. Price is much better than hotels in the city, and we already have reservations at Westin SFO after the remaining operas in our series.
I've been traveling quite a bit and am titanium elite with Marriott. I now expect a certain level of service from Marriott staff. At check-in, front desk attendant had a sort of "care less" attitude until he opened my profile and saw the titanium status, and then his tone changed a bit. One of the bellman brought me a glass of wine (lovely), but now I had a glass of wine and 3 bags to contend with and I was asked if I needed assistance. No offense, but master of the obvious - of course I need assistance! A bellman eventually showed up. Room was very quiet, clean, and modern and there was a really nice touch of extra hospitality in the bathroom in the form of single serve toothpaste, q-tips, hair net, shave gel, and mouthwash available. The front desk staff remained sort of "care less" when I approached multiple times to ask for restaurant reservations, stamps, and change for a $20, which they never seemed to have (?). I asked twice. They sent me over to the lobby Starbucks. Breakfast buffet had a nice selection, and the price was in-line for a major city, but the restaurant staff wasn't particularly hospitable. Hotel was good, location was good, their contracted car service was excellent, but the staff were sub-par for a Marriott, I'm sorry to say.
