Nice renovation
Reviewed 3 days ago

The Kinney is the old Inn at Marina del Rey hotel and has been nicely renovated in a quirky style with bold art everywhere.

We had a small suite which was nice and equipped with decent appointments in the room.

The hotel us about a 20 minute walk to the beach and about the same distance to the trendy stores and restaurants along Abbot Kinney and Venice Blvd. the area directly adjacent to the hotel is rather isolated and has very few shops, restaurants and amenities.

Parking is an expensive $25 per day and the hotel has very few food/drink options. The swimming pool is tiny, more of a lap pool than anything.

The cool kid on the block!

After running around NY for two weeks all we wanted to do was relax for 3 days on our way home in LAX.

The Kinney was the perfect hotel for this.
The staff were amazing, we felt so welcomed.

The rooms: we had a deluxe suite that had a lounge area. It was such a big space, great value for money when you look around this area.

Bed was perfect!

Food:
There is a cafe or takeaway Breakfast with reasonably priced food. It’s all very healthy so don’t expect a fry up.

If you want to grab a takeaway pizza or go for one, there is a bar 1 min away called South End. We picked up a pizza which was delicious but... warning it is a very trendy local bar so don’t be intimidated by the young crowd when you walk in.

There is a liquor store right next door. The hotel has an ice station in the second floor and an ice bucket and glasses in the room.

On the second floor there is a BYOB bar near the pool(small). The set up is really relaxing.

On our last day we left our bags with them and were able to hang around until our flight.

They have bikes to rent which we did for two hrs around the canals and then along Venice beach. Note: you can’t ride around the canals so be ready to walk your bike.

Location: it’s about a 20min walk to Venice beach so it’s not right in the centre of all the bars cafes shops etc but there is a free shuttle that does a circuit around the area and Uber’s are cheap. We just ubered everywhere(including from airport).

One day we hired a rental car from Hertz. It is a 6 min walk from hotel. Well worth it. We spent day driving upto Malibu and then up through Sunset Blvd down through Beverly Hills. If you are confident driving do it!

The hotel is located about 15min from a Westfield at Culver City if you didn’t find what you want in Santa Monica. It has a broad range of shops and the food court had a great variety of food. Glad we went.

Final word: if you can’t afford to stay in a nice place in Santa Monica and don’t mind bring a little way from beach then stay here!

I would definitely stay here again. Well done The Kinney!

This was not up to expectations

I stayed for just a night to break a long journey from London to Honolulu and wanted to stay somewhere in Venice Beach. This is in Marina del Rey, which is the next and slightly less salubrious neighbourhood. The hotel was ok, although is essentially a well designed and equipped motel. The wrong end of Abbott Kinney Boulevard is nearby. The staff are friendly and helpful but that’s about it

The Most Chic, Artsy Hotel at Marina del Rey!

I planned a trip to see Venice & Santa Monica, and staying at The Kinney was such a wonderful experience and highlight during my solo trip! If you LOVE color and areas with great photo-ops, then book this hotel now! The courtyard is truly one-of-a-kind, and there's a huge mural that's within view of the courtyard that's Instagram-worthy. I am in awe with how stylish my hotel room was when I arrived, and it truly felt like home away from home. The staff was incredibly welcoming towards me, and I am thankful to have stayed there and made new friends. I would approve this hotel for female solo travelers, girls' trips, and bachelorette parties!

Convenient

This is more of a friends/bachelor/bachelorette hotel rather than a family stay kind of place. I think the 3 star rating seems appropriate, and makes for a very comfortable stay with very accommodating staff in a convenient location.
