How to Get There
Bathroom floor very dirty, grimy, dog/animal hair with bad smells. Poured a little hydrogen peroxide from Rite Aid on the floor next to shower and we witnessed an explosion! Hopefully we don’t get MRSA or something worse from this place.
Recently stayed at the Westin Monache for a business trip. My room smelled like a wet dog and there was hair in the shower. Wet dog smell was apparent in a coworkers room, he changed rooms and it was “less apparent” in his new room.
I’m all for dog friendly hotels, but the cleaning staff must clean accordingly. And the hair, blech. They cleaned it immediately.
For the room rate, this hotel disappointed.
The Westin is our usual go-to when in mammoth. Gotta admit, i was going into this trip feeling a bit displeased that we went from spending roughly 20K SPG points a night to over 60K points due to the Marriott / SPG merger. nothing we could do about that though so begrudgingly made the reservation to enjoy one of our favorite places.
Being in hospitality myself, aside from asking for a pair of room slippers (cuz it’s an Asian necessity!), try to stay pretty low-maintenance!
Check-in experience was uneventful. No acknowledgment of our gold status and probably not the friendliest, but just went with it.
Next day after a full day of skiing came back to an unserviced room. Wanted to nap a little before dinner, which was a short duration of DO NOT DISTURB, but came back from dinner to find still no service either. Called to address and let it go for the night as it was late.
Next day left the room in the AM to still find the room not touched when we got back in the afternoon. Called to request service about two or three more times, getting the same response they will get someone to our room soon, but disappointed that soon wasn’t very soon at all. It really makes for an unpleasant stay when you just want to rest in your room, but constantly feeling anxious that someone will be knocking at any moment. Or each time you come back to your room to still see the trash piled high when you open the door. Knowing that we had been skipped over the day before, I would have hoped they would have tried to get to us a little earlier, especially since I called a number of times again. And really, you can’t tell a hotel guest that they must have not gotten to you cuz the hotel is at full occupancy and the final shift ends at 5 pm. I know my former housekeeping director would laugh if I told her this!
By the time they got to our room, it was late afternoon. And when we came back from dinner, towels were not fully replenished, did not have a new set of toiletries, no bottled waters, and bed linens had stains. It kinda felt like they ran out of supplies by the time they got to us.
I don’t want to sound entitled, but after spending over triple the amount of points on this stay, all we wanted was just the USUAL norm! That would have been more than sufficient!
I love the Westin brand and I particularly love this Westin, but we left with our least satisfying experience.
Busy or not, those of us that work in hospitality work to proactively prepare ahead and impress those we service to exceed their expectations. And when in times we have to be reactive, you do it as efficiently and mindfully as possible!
I’m not one to write reviews, but I think this particular stay was such a let-down, especially knowing what this property is / was capable of.
Couldn’t be happier with our stay. From the moment we arrived the staff were so friendly and went above and beyond. Very convenient ski valet so you don’t have to carry any heavy skis with you, valet is located right by the bubble to the mountain so you don’t have to walk with all your gear either. Rooms were very clean and spacious, rates were reasonable and you get more than you pay for. Although I wish they had a sauna or steam room to recover after a long day on the mountains. Special mention & HUGE thank you to the manager Ryan L, he is such a hard worker and provided amazing customer service. He made the experience even better than we could have ever expected!!
It costs zero to smile and be nice. Yet, the leadership of the front desk staff for this property misunderstands that, and how to provide any type of customer service. I single out the front desk only because the staff through the property was great, except the front desk. At first I thought it was just me, but then I witnessed them treat other guests in a way I felt embarrassed to witness it. Furthermore, when I came to leave this review I notice the observation by me is validated by other reviews on here saying the same thing.
Additionally, this property shows purposeful disregard for Bonvoy/Marriott status. I'm a Titanium Elite and used to some level of recognition at other properties. One obvious point to support my feedback is that we were there with a group of friends who booked when we did, reserved same room type, have ZERO status level and checked-in when we did. I had requested a high floor and view, and received a room on the 4th floor (7 floor property) facing the view of the pool, and the friends who checked in next to us were put into the 6th floor with a beautiful view. So, before this property tries to respond with the boiler plate response that requests are based on availability and they try to accommodate when they can, this example shows they obviously do not do that.
Two other oddities were that the shower did not have bath gel, only old school bar of soap with shampoo. And the fitness center is bismal at best.
On the bright side, the location, rooms, and property upkeep in general is great!
