How to Get There
The Hideout Restaurant and pool of the hotel really create an unusual oasis in the middle of LA, and makes you feel like you are on vacation. The pool area feels tropical and with the great weather, is a treat. The quality of the food at the steak restaurant and Hideout were terrific. I'm not a huge fan of the contemporary finishes of the room, but the service was extremely good, helpful and aware of how full the hotel was and tried to attend to you as quickly as possible.
The hotel lobby is very loud at night with a band in the middle. During a late check in the person at the desk and I had to be screaming to communicate.
And the biggest issue: This is the hotel with the worse problem of WIFI I’ve ever encountered in a hotel. This is what prompted this review.
I love what the W USED to be, but this particular property just needs a total re-do. I was very disappointed and embarrassed to be staying there in the end. The rooms are old and worn. My 2BR suite had a dingy, literally rusty tub. One of the bedrooms had no light except one small reading lamp in the corner. The ‘sofa’ was slippery vinyl and was torn in one corner with pen marks on it. The carpet made a funny crunching sound as you walked across it, probably from cheap padding. The windows are small and were dirty. The lobby and common areas are decent enough and of course W cool looking, so that seems to be where they put their money. I will say the staff was very nice and the location is fabulous, so I really wish they would just make some improvements — it could be a fantastic hotel if they just renovated the rooms. I won't be returning unless it was just to crash for a night. Westwood W, you need a comeback story we can rave about. Keep us posted.
