How to Get There
I stay here for work but would not recommend it. My bills always have an item or two that I did not consume which I can understand as a one off but every week is completely unacceptable. Rooms look like something out of MTV Cribs or Pimp My Ride. Nowhere to grab breakfast to go (like a yogurt parfait or sandwich). Location also very sketchy with lots of homeless people outside.
I booked a room at this hotel for my sister, her husband and their two boys (ages 6 and 11). Upon arrival they were informed the hotel had oversold and they were given 1 king instead of 2 queens. I called and spoke to the manager, Sabrina to get an explanation and got repeatedly interrupted while asking if there was any possible way they help the situation ( ie. cot etc). Sabrina was quite rude and offered no apology. She just kept interrupted and saying “we’re oversold so...”. They were given a day bed - meaning a piece of foam that was 2 inches thick for the window sill that barely fit the 11 year old who ended up sleeping on the floor. I DO NOT advise anyone to stay at this hotel with children, or more then 2 people for that matter.
The room was fine, but the beds were quite low. Great cleaning service and great gym with amazing views.
However I would not reccomend this for families.Yet perfect for someone/someones under the age of 25 as it really is a party hotel.
They do try and charge for lots of things and at checkout tried to charge us for the minibar when we didn't even use any of it.
Often you can smell weed in the hallways which was not great and on the weekends it takes a while to get used to the party music in the background - Which then also means that you can hear people in the halls (which often kept us awake).
Location was great and very central but the Hollywood Walk of Fame regularly had lots of homeless people who were drunk and high, not somewhere you would want to be at night or late night.
The hotel is not for the business traveler and surely not for the family what a bug mistake staying there. We stayed in rooms 1122 and 1114 and the noise from the night clubs on Friday and Saturday nights kept me up all night till 0330 both nights. I understand its LA and the weekend but come on????? Also the biggest issue for us was the location of room 1122 and the GYM situated next door. The barbells are continuously in use and they are always dropped on the floor which NO KIDDING ring loudly through the walls and make the most annoying sounds when dropped. The club is open 24/7 so that annoying sound is continously.
The rooms are amazing, the beds are comfortable, and style is unbeatable. If you're lucky to get a corner room on a high floor you will be treated to views of the Hollywood sign above the Pantages Theatre. Little touches like bench seating inside windows earn major brownie points.
Location at Hollywood and Argyle is perfection. Hollywood and Highland is walkable (though it's only one stop on the subway - which is directly below the hotel at Hollywood/Vine station!), the Pantages Theatre is across the street, and there's ample restaurants within walking distance.
It lives up to the W brand of splashy elegance, however on the weekends when the lobby bars turn into a nightclub.... beware. It can make resting a bit difficult.
