How to Get There
Came here last night for an Art show which was great. The hotel is beautiful and the staff seems to be pretty nice. If you’re from out of town, CHECK google maps and look at the area. It’s very close to downtown and a central location, but it’s a really dumpy area. You’re not going to walk around this area at night. There’s a cool music venue in walking distance and a great coffee shop with excellent coffee.
I was in LA for a business trip for a weekend and we heard about the Mayfair Library Bar. Our bartender Courtney wowed us and went above and beyond to make our trip special (we were celebrating a birthday as well). Very kind and detailed oriented. Out of all the choices in LA, I would return to the Mayfair just because Courtney gave us a reason to choose this bar again and again.
First - there are flies everywhere. They are swarming in the lobby. One just fell in my tea, after it had been sitting on the table for five minutes. They BLAST unbelievably terrible music everywhere, including the so-called library. You couldn't even make a phone call it's so loud. And the room is disgusting. It reeks of terrible men's cologne, and you can't open the window to get fresh air. There was a bug on the toilet seat. The bathroom is barely big enough to turn around in. The shower is one foot wide. I prepaid for two nights and I just booked a new hotel for the second night because I'd rather lose money than spend one more second in here. Ew.
The hotel was gloomy and dark. The room was very small; I understand this is a historic hotel. It was clean but I would've liked it to be better. The staff was pleasant. However, I left my designer prescription sunglasses behind and called the hotel immediately but they just gave me the run around between front desk and housekeeping. So good bye to those glasses. 😫
My friends and myself found ourselves in need of a getaway from another weekend in the Valley, so we booked a last minute Friday/Saturday night stay at The Mayfair after reviewing a few options in the Downtown area. We were attracted to the price, but found the vibe of the hotel to be the real highlight. Friendly staff, beautiful 1920's decor mixed with contemporary art, and clean rooms (this place apparently was completely redesigned so all new accommodations). Great location in relation to Downtown bars and clubs. Will definitely return next time we need an LA staycation!
