How to Get There
Hotel was in a great location to LAX . Had a shuttle to the airport. Hotel was nice, needed to be updated. Check in was a little slow. Rooms had fairly good soundproofing for a airport hotel. Lobby bar was nice
Convenient close to Avis rental (easier to walk than take 2 shuttles). Burger king across street closed year ago. Shuttle is shared, therefore many anxious people on way back. I counted 9 usb ports (none in bathroom). If you have status, ask for free water to avoid $7 evian in your room. Basic coffee and mini fridge in room. Outdoor pool and breakfast starts at $22.
My girlfriend and I stayed here for our last night LA before flying out. We found the room comfortable, good location near LAX, shuttle service to LAX. The Hertz car return is about 1/2 mile away, so we returned the car that night rather than the day of our flights.
I'm a lifetime spg Platinum member skeptical of the Marriott takeover of spg. I've had really bad experiences with Marriott (see my review of the awful JW Marriott in Cabo) so I booked the Renaissance LAX with some trepidation. It turns out my fears were unfounded and I actually found myself very pleasantly surprised by the awesome service and recognition of my years of loyalty to spg (and yes, Marriott too).
I received an email a few days prior to arrival from Mia, the Guest Relations coordinator and Javier, the Operations Manager, asking if I had any special requests. Since this was a special trip for me I asked for the best room they could spare. Mia not only made sure I received an awesome upgrade to a suite, when I arrived there was a complimentary fruit plate and a personalized card signed by 11 of the staff wishing me the best on my upcoming trip to Asia. I want to thank Sasha, Ryan, Chris B, Jan, Mia, Kiaru, and all the others for taking time out of their busy day to think of me and wish me well. This act of kindness went a long way in making me realize that maybe this merger is a good thing and that for all future stays at LAX I will be booking at the Renaissance.
It also helped that I got free breakfast as a Platinum guest and my brother who accompanied me really enjoyed the fitness center and other amenities. The shuttle bus to LAX was quick and easy and I highly recommend this hotel for business travelers on a schedule but also families on vacation. I will definitely return. Kudos to the management who developed a staff like this with so much dedication.
The hotel looks very modern and the rooms are very spacious. The price is also very reasonable and there is transfer services from the airport to the hotel.
However, the concierge service can be improved. There is no information on the pick up transfer timing and you have to wait at the lobby.
Secondly, there is no reservation or queue system and as a result, there is a lot of anxiety that you may not have a seat inside the bus specially when there are many others waiting at the lobby.
You might be there first but don’t be surprised when others board the bus faster than you and you may end up having to wait for the next bus.
Don’t expect the concierge people to assist you with your luggage. They are more interested in doing valet parking.
If you are in a hurry, get a taxi or a Uber or you will miss your flights.
