After all, you can’t be a base without a convenient location, and this one’s is right in the heart of the action – in Westwood and just steps from famed Wilshire Boulevard. Minutes away are some of the city’s best dining destinations, plus the shops of Rodeo Drive, for scoring some new digs to pair with your newfound tan. And the Getty Museum, Venice Beach and the clubs of West Hollywood are all an easy drive; just hop in your own car, or better yet, tap the concierge to set up an exotic car or limo. Because if you’re going to do L.A. like a local, you might as well go all out.
The inspiration for your room’s design is Spain in the 1920s, though the cherry hardwood in the flooring hails from Brazil. Sweet details include a 55-in. 4K flat-screen HDTV, premium full-sized Etro bath amenities and Fili d’Oro bedding – among many, many others. Premium Junior suites are 560 square feet, with a balcony or patio, while Premium One Bedroom suites measure 665 square feet, with a trellised outdoor space on upper floors. The Queen’s suites are 925 square feet, each complete with a 190-square-foot balcony apiece.
Centrally located near Wilshire Boulevard, this Beverly Hills-adjacent spot puts you a quick walk from the UCLA campus and a short drive from West Hollywood’s vibrant nightlife, Rodeo Drive’s designer boutiques and miles of beaches (eccentric Venice Beach is a must-see). Don’t miss museums like the Getty, just a short walk from the hotel.
How to Get There
In a city with hundreds of hotels to choose from, this hotel either met or exceeded our expectations in many areas. Located on the west side of LA within walking distance of the UCLA campus, this hotel is located on the edge of the interesting Westwood Village. Ironically, our stay was not in affiliation with UCLA or its nearby medical center. We sought a boutique hotel in an area with a high walkability factor to restaurants, bars, coffee shops, and other sights. Also, within a 30 minute Uber ride radius is Hollywood, The Getty, downtown LA, and LAX. The Plaza La Reina met our criteria perfectly. (We also felt the cost was very reasonable for the value received). If you have a car, there is an on premises parking garage. Our first impressions were positive from the lovely decor and furniture in the lobby; however, Troy, the concierge who greeted us, really made us feel welcome. Everyone we met was friendly and helpful. Our one bedroom suite was very comfortable and well appointed. The bedroom area was a little cramped, but the living area and bathroom had plenty of space. Also, while there was a small balcony off the bedroom, the view was unremarkable and uninviting. We did have a nice window view of the interior courtyard which is very beautiful. For decent views and and a nice place to relax, there is a wonderful rooftop terrace. While a neighboring building looms over the terrace, we found it to be a pleasant place complete with lounge chairs and greenery. The entire hotel, from the architecture, furniture, decor, and style are reminiscent of Spain and the Mediterranean. We certainly would like to stay here again.
If you need to stay around UCLA look no further. UCLA is within walking distance. There are great restaurants across the street. They were just beginning an addition for a bakery and continental breakfast so I couldn’t review that. But the rooms are AMAZING. The terrace is AMAZING. I wish we had taken better advantage of the terrace. The courtyard. Impeccable. Beautiful backdrop for photos with family. The rooms are so spacious. The washer and dryer are a great plus. We didn’t have to get home and wash. What a treat when we arrived home. We wILL stay here again when back in LA. LAX is a 20 minute ride via Uber. Target is walking distance. Lastly the staff. What kind and attentive staff they have. They greeted us by name and remembered where we were going when we arrived back. Those small details stood out immensely and made the stay go from a 10/10 to a 12/10. Expectations were well exceeded!
We stayed in LA for two nights and this hotel was in the perfect location for us- we wanted to go the Griffith Observatory and Venice beach, and it was right in between the two, situated in a safe part of town with a luxurious vibe. We were upgraded to a suite that felt like a private villa complete with a full living room, kitchen, and washer + dryer in the unit. The bathroom was super modern and the bed was very comfortable. This place made us actually want to stay inside rather than go out at times. The staff was helpful and made great suggestions for dinner. They had it all together and we will definitely be back!
