Would stay again for the location
Reviewed 1 day ago

I wanted to write a review while my stay is fresh in my mind. I like really trying to get into the details, because when I read reviews, I’m hoping for something that is relevant to my own concerns, so I like to try and give a straightforward informative type of experience to pass on information!

I am reviewing a Club Room and experience—

My friend and I arrived at the hotel around 1 pm. We were informed that our room wasn’t ready, but that it should be ready by 4 pm, which, we were informed, is ‘normal check in time.’ 4 pm seems pretty late for a check in time, but they told us they would text if the room happened to become ready before then. As we had come in from a couple of hours on the train, we were hoping to freshen up a bit before heading out to explore, but instead, we checked our luggage, and headed out. After walking over to Grand Central Market, exploring, eating lunch, coming back up on the Angels Flight Funicular and walking back, the room was still not ready, so we sat and waited in the lobby lounge area.

The lobby area is at least a comfortable area in which to sit, and you can refresh yourself with some really delicious fruit infused ice water. There were also fresh apples, and in the afternoon, I noticed a platter of small fruit tartlets, macarons, and cannoli appear on the front desk.

Finally, at 4 pm on the dot, we got a text that the room was finally ready. FYI, club rooms are on the highest floor, which is the 17th floor. This is also the same floor that the suites are on, ie, the Presidential Suite is on the same floor. So it seems like since we had to wait until exactly 4 pm to check in, that they leave the top floor (ie, more expensive rooms) last to be cleaned and prepped?

When we entered the room, it smelled like it had been heavily spritzed with some sort of fragrance by the cleaning crew. Both my friend and I are fragrance sensitive, so it was overpowering. We had a corner room, and there are two windows that you can actually open at a slant, so we opened them to air it out, and just left them open when we went back out, even though it was cold outside. The scent never really went away, however. The room really had no exciting view to speak of - I believe we were looking at another part of the hotel.

Now for some particulars of the room:
FYI, there is no mini-fridge in the room. So nowhere to put those leftovers from Grand Central Market! There is a thermostat in the room, but whether off or on, the fan whirs constantly, it just comes on louder and lower if the heat kicks on. As mentioned before, there are two windows that open. The sheets and blankets were typically very, very ‘tucked’ down and short (you know how sometimes the sheets and blankets can feel too short for the bed and don’t cover you up all the way) and it was ‘too tight’ (for those who can visualize George Constanza here…) The bed itself, however, was a super comfy plush pillow top.

Bathroom:
The bathroom has a stand alone shower, along with a separate tub, which is nice to have both. The bathroom comes with amenities - face soap, bath soap, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, shower cap, mouth wash, toothbrush, toothpaste, razor, shaving cream, and there is a hair dryer.

Other things to note in the bathroom!
There is -no- exhaust fan in the bathroom.
The water pressure in the shower is not the best.

Club room amenities:
We decided to stay in the club room as the website advertises that it includes cocktails, hors d'oeuvres, and breakfast, all served in the club lounge - very convenient as it is all included in the price of the room, and convenient as the lounge is on the same floor as the room.

We went over to explore the lounge after checking in. It’s a very nice space with tables and chairs. Since having a late lunch, we felt the hors d'oeuvres would be very good option since we didn’t want a big dinner, so we wanted to find out how late they kept the food available because we were going to head to Skyspace for sunset. When we got there to find out, they had set out the cocktail making supplies, however, as far as any food went, we only saw crackers, but we asked how long the food stayed out anyway, and were told ’til 5.’ So we figured we were just going to miss out on that, and we didn’t mind since all we saw were crackers anyway. While at Skyspace, we went ahead and bought appetizer type food there. Finally, after we got back probably around 7:00-7:30 pm, we went over to the club lounge to grab some cold water from the beverage refrigerator, and to our surprise, there was a whole spread of food - cheeses, fruits, fruit salad, breaded shrimp, etc. We were a bit disappointed about the miscommunication and missing out on that, because that's one of the reasons you pay for a club room is to take advantage of these conveniences.

The next morning, we went to the lounge for breakfast. It is very convenient just to stroll down the hall to breakfast! Breakfast selections consisted of bagles, bread, muffins (of course, toaster was there), fresh whole fruits, yogurt with granola and fresh berries, cold cereal. Hot items were scrambled eggs, breakfast potatoes, sausages.

So definitely some pros and cons to this stay! The location is a definite pro, as it is right downtown and walkable to so many downtown locations - Grand Central Market, Disney Concert Hall, Angels Flight Funicular, Pershing Square, The Last Bookstore, many more… Lyft to Union Station is in $5 range. I’d stay again for the location.

Hope this review helps for anyone reading!

Lovely stay for a Walt Disney Concert Hall Christmas program
Reviewed 4 days ago

This was a nice choice of hotel for attending a beautiful Christmas program at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. The hotel is a great place to relax before the concert. There is so much to do right in the immediate vicinity, you could stay for days and never be bored. We stayed just one night for a quick trip to enjoy a Christmas concert at the Walt Disney Concert Hall. All we had to do was walk across the street - that was so relaxing to just walk one block to the concert. The concert was great-such a terrific venue. The hotel was super clean, the room was quiet, the restaurant was very good, both lunch and breakfast. Valet parking convenient and professional. The front desk was super.
