How to Get There
Worst room we've ever experienced at a so-called Gold Crown resort. The furniture was outdated, filthy and bathroom was a mess - chipped tiles, dripping shower, metal part of shower loose. Carpet was dirty (& so were our feet after walking on it!!) The front desk staff was rude when we called letting them know the condition of the room and that we had no bedding for our young daughter's couch bed - we had to drive down to front office, late after a long day of travel, to get it ourselves.
Nice place, clean and lots of on site activities like golf, gym, pool, waterslide, ping pong, foosball and billiards. My only suggestion would be to ask when you check in for a room that is close to a pool area that you desire. There are 3 and they are on different areas of the resort We have no kids and were with another couple and we got put near the kids pool. Kind of a pain to have to walk 5 minutes with a drink to the pool if we didn't want to go to the one near our rooms. They have an adult only pool area and quite realistically 2 of them, since the other one appeared to be frequented only by adults. Yet we were in the family area.Other than that, the place was good. 1.5 hours from Anaheim, 2 from California and about 45 minutes from dowtown San Diego. Good if you want to try and see all cities.
This Welk resort was so nice. We easily overlooked the small unit because there was so much to do there. We loved the theater and all the available activities. The staff was VERY helpful, not only with resort activities, but with anything you wanted to to off the grounds.
We came here for a family vacation. Called at 1:00 pm to see if we could check in early and were told “we have no idea if we have available rooms till you arrive”. Uh, ok. We drove out to take a chance, were told they had no rooms ready (which may have been true) and we explained our young son with Autism was having a tough day. Could they possible get us in as soon as one was available? The women at the front desk snickered at us. For real.
It took forever to check in (again) once a room was finally ready. We tried to get help and yet a third person was so rude and condescending. I swear we almost left.
The hotel is pretty 70s style and run down. Our room has a rug in it with holes everywhere. Walls are filthy. So disappointed we came all the way from Colorado for this.
This property is conveniently located north of Escondido and about 45 minutes from San Diego. Best way to get there will be to rent a car. The property is located close to I-15 between mountains. This place is great for relaxing with family and friends. The units are very spacious and they come on 1 bedroom, 2 bedroom to 3 bedroom suites. There are multiple pool around the resorts. The staff is very friendly and always willing to help. They have multiple activities for adults and kids. They have small stores by the front desk in case you need any last minutes things. My suggestion is to do all your grocery in Escondido before you arrive to the hotel. The room have kitchen and all utensils you will need to prepare a meal in the unit. I highly recommend this property for a relaxing week in California.
