How to Get There
Let me start off by saying that this review isn't regarding the hotel itself, but rather an employee . The hotel itself is nice, spacious, comfortable rooms, clean .. I loved the hotel. It was upon checkout though, that I had an issue . We had ordered room service and we were curious about the charges, because they just didnt seem to add up. We were first helped by a woman named Karmina. We asked for the room service reciept which showed we were charged individually for drinks ( coffee, juice ) which we thought came with the meal we ordered, as that's what the room service door tag led us to believe . Karmina asked us to step to the side so that we could speak to someone from the room service dept. While we were waiting, another front desk employee by the name of Desmond , asked if he could try and assist us. We showed him how the menu selection on the room service door tag made it seem like drinks were included with the meal, he told us that they were not, but that he could definitely see how it was misleading and why we would think that, so he said he would adjust the bill, to remove the drink charges . He then turned to Karmina to ask a question, at which point Karmina seemed to get an attitude with him . She was VERY disrespectful to Desmond , and I actually felt embarrassed for him, that he was getting spoken to like that, and in front of guests no less. Karmina then came up to us with an authoritative tone, to try and talk about something totally unrelated that she ASSUMED we were disputing . I ended up having to cut her off mid sentence, and say, we dont have an issue with that at all, and that's not what we are trying to discuss. Desmonds name tag said that he was the manager, and I am assuming that by the way Karmina was speaking to him, she must be above him, director maybe ? But in my opinion, she has let her position go to her head. In all honesty, Desmond should be the one is charge, even with Karminas attitude, he still stayed professional towards her. Desmond was also a lot more knowledgeable regarding some other questions we had as well. I hope that the "higher ups" at Hilton read this, because as a business owner myself, I wouldnt want a person such as Karmina representing my brand , especially if she was the person " in charge " at the time , as her " holier than thou " personality I'm sure brings down the staff, and definitely is not a good look for the guests at the hotel. The hotel gets 5 stars , dont get me wrong , but I am marking the review with one star... only because I want this to be seen and I know negative reviews are probably read before positive ones.
We extended after a conference in Mission Bay and were surprised at this Hilton Property. The room was a nice size and nicely updated. The bigger surprise was the Restaurant Patio and Food. The ambience was top knotch! We will definitely stay again.
Had a hard time checking in, one clerk said one thing and another something different. Took over an hour to get into my room. Be careful when using room-service. I ordered grilled chicken and got food poisoning.
Spacious rooms, well appointed facility, friendly staff at every turn, with complimentary shuttle to nearby restaurants and shopping. Staff was always ready with a recommendation for lunch and dinner. Shuttle was quick and efficient.
I stayed in July 2018. I arrived off a flight from Australia via LA and SD to find I'd forgotten to pack my electrical adaptor. There on business so needed to charge my laptop. Not only was there no power adapter in the room (I can't remember the last time I stayed in a hotel anywhere in the world that didn't have one??) ... there was not a SINGLE adapter to be found in the entire hotel?
This is a Hilton hotel in California in 2018!
I asked the concierge to help, and to their credit they did offer advice ... directions to the local drugstore (a free ride in the hotel van) to buy my own adapter.
I didn't bother with the pool... it looked very tired... much like the rest of the shabby, dated hotel.
However, the bar and room service were fine and as is always the case in the US, the staff were polite and helpful.
