How to Get There
When reading the history of The Culver Hotel after it was recommended as a place to stay made the decision easy. My positive impression of the hotel really began after I received a welcoming email to which I replied asking to change the room type I had reserved. Within 15 minutes, I received a gracious response with an assurance that the change was possible and explaining the change in rate. After arriving at the Culver, I realized it was the perfect location in the Los Angeles area. It is conveniently located to I-10, but as far as congestion or traffic noise, one would think the interstate was far away. The folks at the valet stand welcomed us warmly. When we entered, several vases of fresh flowers were set on the small chest just inside the door. Heading on in to the main room of the hotel was another employee who greeted us graciously. And there were more stunning arrangements of fresh flowers—not stilted arrangements, but ones created as if someone had gone to their cottage garden and prepared them just for their “company.” The bedroom room was elegant, bright, comfortable and convenient to the elevator and stairs. That evening, we ate in the hotel. There are a variety of table types and sizes, and a variety of food items on the menu. Our meals were served with style and excellent flavor. The following day, we enjoyed the ample continental breakfast, then later met some friends for conversation and drinks. We must have stayed several hours during which time a server regularly checked on us without ever once giving us the impression we had stayed too long. The Culver was like an elegant home away from home.
I made my reservation directly with the hotel.....confirmation by email, followed by email helping to arrange airport pickup. Checked in early....and room 46 was available (midweek).....and located on plaza side with nice view. As an early morning walker....delicious breakfast available at 7 am......so coffee good for the neighborhood walk.
The art deco decor is fantastic! Each room is different.....each hallway is different.....movie star photos all around.....lobby = bar/evening club/sitting area/check in/sometimes breakfast here with antiques and classic furniture.
Bogie and Bacall movies are projected on the wall in the evening along with different jazz groups playing. The hotel gets a nice crowd.
The new plaza was just opening when I left.....nice new open space.
The 'cowardly lion' water fountain is nice along with the brass depiction of the Culver family outside.....and window displays go back to the glory days of Hollywood.
If the munchkinks from the Wizard of Oz stayed here......so can YOU.
Love the chandeliers in all the rooms.....especially ones in the conference/small banquet rooms on the 2nd floor for meetings. The hotel is charming all around!!
AND special thanks to Mr. David Hall - front office manager - for your hospitality.
We stayed 5 nights for a family wedding, and overall we enjoyed our stay and would come back. The location is quite good and the staff welcoming and pleasant. The fitness room was small but had everything needed. The room was good sized but lacked a dresser so clothes had to be put on shelves. Service was a little short of expectation in just a couple areas - the continental breakfast needed a touch more attention to make sure everything was always replenished, and a late night call for ice took 30 minutes to complete. But the history of the location, overall ambiance and friendliness of the staff would have us consider staying again if our plans call for another visit to Los Angeles.
