How to Get There
Pros: Friendly breakfast staff, even though the selection is limited. The guy making the omelettes was the best.
Cons: They do not honor special requests at this hotel, so don't even bother asking for a high floor room, a room away from the elevator, or an extra towel or extra pillow. And if you are Gold/Platinum don't even bother requesting for an upgraded room. They won't even check to see if one is available. And they don't offer you a choice between bonus points or gift, if you are Platinum. Don't bother booking a package deal either, because you won't receive what was offered in the package on the Marriott website, and when I brought this up, the guy checking me in had not clue what I was talking about. On top of all this, they don't have channel FS1 like other Marriotts, so you can't watch the World Cup. And the hotel wasn't very quiet at night due to noise from the hallway and noise from the adjacent highway. This hotel is a major disappointment, and I can't believe they get away with calling themselves a Marriott property.
I booked this room for 3 nights via the spring promotion and didn't get the promotion ($10 per day bar/restaurant credit) per day. Despite being Platinum, they didn't upgrade the room, and they didn't honor my requests for a top floor room, extra pillows, or extra towels. Worst Marriott customer service I've ever experienced anywhere in the world.
As stated earlier the breakfast staff was great. However, the Remodel is very disappointing – – no drawers (I guess they expect you to leave your clothes in your suitcase) closets are portable and small. We also were out all day long and got back after 4 o’clock to find our room was still not made up! Extremely disappointing especially when you’re staying in the suite and are platinum Marriott members for life. Either way it shouldn’t matter – – the room should be made up before 4:00 PM!
My friends live in Buellton and the game plan is to go to Santa Barbara and Solvang. Natalie was the hotel beautifully remodeled with the employees and staff are so genuine and down earth. Wished I was staying there more than one night
My husband and I stayed at this hotel in March, as part of a group attending one of the SpaceX rocket launches.
The staff we met seemed friendly and efficient but the rooms were fairly stark and cold. We also had an issue when it became clear that our bed had not been properly changed after the previous guest. This problem was instantly rectified though by giving us a new room within 5 minutes of the initial complaint, which was very good service.
The outside areas were also very stark - outside the bar are a few sofas etc but then there was just lots of empty space. It's also very noisy from the highway running alongside.
The hotel is in an out of town position in a slightly strange area. Solvang in particular is very odd. If we came to this area again, I think we would prefer to stay in Los Olivos.
I would recommend the small carriage museum in Santa Ynez though - very good.
I probably wouldn't stay in this hotel again as it just felt a bit strange and nothing like any other Marriott we have stayed in over the years.
