Good base for Santa Barbara area
Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Stayed here for 2 nights between Christmas and New Year. Decent prices when compared to Santa Barbara Marriott properties. Place was busy with families enjoying their holiday. No room upgrade available. Did get my welcome gift for being Platinum member. Breakfast buffet was plentiful including omelette station, Service was good. Bar area was happening in the evenings. Liked the location as Solvang is 10 minutes away and Santa Barbara is a 30-40 min. drive. You can walk down to Barrelworks Brewing from the hotel. We are quite satisfied with our stay.

Fantastic experience apart from breakfast

After driving down the pacific highway for over 7 hours my 3 friends and I were pleasantly greeted the by the receptionist of the hotel. As I am a gold elite member I asked if it would be possible to upgrade. However, unfortunately no 2 bed suites were available. They did agree that we would move to the upgraded room on the second night and that they would move our suitcases for us. I would like to highlight David at the reception that treated us so kindly and competently. Rather than give me reasonings for problems that occurred he found solutions. He was a great help, polite and had a healthy sense of humour. So great job in terms of customer service.
The rooms themselves are spotless, modern and quite large. Especially the suites are fantastic with the most comfortable beds.
The breakfast was quite disappointing. There were only 2 waitresses which was clearly not enough as they were not able to cater to all the guests, which led to long waiting times until one was served. The buffet was lacking a variety of food and apart from the omelet station had less options that the Springhill suites hotel which has free breakfast. So I find the price for the breakfast ridiculous. Additionally, the quality of the food was not great either. This was a big disappointment. Ordering a la carte makes no sense as the prices are nearly as high as the price for the buffet and one can order most things at the omelet station.

TERRIBLE customer service

Booked a stay for a business engagement... Just under 2 days before (24+ hours!) I called to slide the dates. I was told they needed 2+ DAYS or I'd be charged for the change!

I moved the days but later had to cancel due to a conflict and sure enough they charged me $191 for a night I didn't use! This as a Marriott Gold Elite member... Unacceptable. I have NEVER stayed somewhere that you have to chance/cancel 2+ DAYS in advance. How can they possibly cater to business people?

Avoid this Marriott...

Perfect one nighter and super close to The Hitching Post
Reviewed 1 month ago

From check-in to check-out the front desk service was professional and enthusiastic. We had apps and drinks in the lounge, great selections in both regards. They have a good menu and a lively atmosphere, far better than I expected to see at a medium size Marriott like this. Had we not had plans for dinner at the famous Hitching Post, we could have had a nice dinner right there.
If you don't know the area you have two famous and delicious restaurants within a couple blocks, The Hitching Post and AJ Spurs. If you don't already have a reservation at The Hitching Post you will probably be better off going to AJ Spurs. AJ Spurs is more family friendly and bigger with plenty of seating, the food is great and big portions. And you are so close to great wineries and wine tasting right there in Buellton, you could even walk to the closest tasting room. Enjoy!
Lastly, no complaints about the room and we made use of the fridge. All rooms have a balcony but not all have private balcony's. We would stay here again.

Everyone gets a balcony

Ended up here on a whim. Every room had a balcony. Yes, some share a balcony but that’s ok. Close to downtown and many restaurants. The town itself is small and close to Solvagne. Beds were nice and wood floors made it nicer. The restaurant/bar inside was nice, especially on a rainy day. Staff was great. Glad we ended up here.
