Some good things, some bad things
Reviewed 18 hours ago

We came for graduation. I will start with the bad because if you can get past that, the good is good. I know, it's graduation time, but if they can charge you $200 a night during the year, they should not charge you $400 in May. Someone mentioned breakfast which is not included. We were glad we came early because they ran out of parking later in the day. The lounge area in the front is dark. The rooms are fairly small. The shower temperature was very inconsistent and could not find the right setting - too cold followed by scalding hot.

The good. Staff was fantastic. Very helpful the whole time we were there. Bed was quite comfortable. Despite facing the street, the room was really pretty quiet which was a surprise because the other two times I stayed near Berkeley the rooms were very noisy. It was nice to get some good sleep here. The location is perfect.

I think its probably a 4 star rating if not for the price gouging for graduation which drops the value significantly.

Graduate visit

We booked this hotel because it was so very handy for the university and graduation. Very quirky inside. Bedroom was an adequate size as was the bathroom. Linen and towels lovely. Bed comfortable. The staff that we talked to were very friendly. Those were the pluses, now for the minuses. Paper cups. Coffee supplied for the coffee machine was unpleasant, coffee creamer, which I know if very popular in the US, was awful. Bad enough in coffee, disgusting in tea. Only enough sugar etc for one cup each, why not supply enough for two servings. No glasses in the bathroom, really don’t want reuse the paper cups. I’m all for eco saving but that’s ridiculous. No breakfast in with the price of the room. As we paid $338 (incl taxes) I would have expected not to have several holes in the rug! Dangerous apart from just being wrong. Can’t give you more than three stars, just not good value for the money charged.

Beautiful hotel close to everything in Berkeley

The hotel is right next to the campus and is beautiful inside and out. The lobby is a great space to hang out in with many nice touches. The room was about the size you would expect in the bay and had many touches to make sure you knew you were next to UC Berkeley. The beds were very comfortable and clean. The complimentary continental breakfast had great quality food and coffee. We stayed here for a concert at the greek and it was not a far walk to the venue. Lots of food options immediately around the hotel. Parking can be a little confusing as there are two separate lots that don't connect. But once that was figured out, it was a breeze. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Would stay here again!

Sophisticated, fun, close to everything

The Graduate Berkeley is my favorite hotel to stay at in the East Bay Area. Staying here means being striking distance to shopping, entertainment, public transit and dining - the Graduate's location is also accessible to other San Francisco Bay Area points of interest. Fun decor that pays tribute to UC Berekely, comfy beds, ample parking and a fabulous continental breakfast spread make the Graduate a great fit for business or leisure travel.

Great hotel right in the middle of Berkeley

If you love hotels with historic charm, look no further than this hotel! We've stayed multiple times over the years and love the location. It's great for catching a football game, walking to the Greek for live music, or strolling Telegraph and Shattuck. Make sure you stop in Henry's for a cocktail or late night bites. Speaking of late night bites, take your pick of cuisines and chances are you'll find a college-budget priced option near by. WE love this place and look forward to going back.
