How to Get There
I booked this reservation under a rate that offered continental breakfast for two at the Chi- Chi each morning of our stay (highlighted in our email chain below). We were three adults and so upon check-in, I asked the receptionist about breakfast for three, and she informed me that it'll be completely okay to have breakfast for three.
On day 1, one of my friends goes to breakfast and informs us that the waiter told her it's actually not included, but rather, the hotel only covers $30/person as part of a voucher ($90/day and $180 total). Given the exuberant food prices at this hotel, this meant that breakfast was not included, contrary to what was advertised, and that we had to incur an out of pocket expense, every day, for three people. When my friend and I go to have breakfast the 2nd day and inform the waiter of this, he assures us that this discount will be applied at checkout.
Upon checkout, we were actually informed, that this was completely false and in fact we only get a breakfast allowance of $50 per day total for the three of us.
So in summary, I booked a reservation that falsely advertised free continental breakfast for two, upon check-in was told it was for three, at breakfast was told we get $30/person/day ($180 for a two-day stay), and upon checkout that was reduced to $50/day ($100 for a two-day stay). Not only is this unethical from a moral standpoint, it is completely deceiving from commercial / marketing standpoint, and just all-round terrible customer service. The most infuriating thing about this is that the breakfast restaurant was immensely overpriced, and we absolutely would not have ate at the restaurant had we known they were only covering $50/day.
In my five-years as a loyal SPG and Marriot member, I have never been treated with such disrespect and lack of professionalism. This hotel 1) Falsely advertised something that was include in the rate that they then did not offer 2) Blatantly lied to myself and my friends about the breakfast policy 3) Upon being confronted with this, they were aggressive and did absolutely nothing to fix the situation, offer a discount, or any form of compensation.
After failing to reason with the manager upon checkout, I left the hotel fuming and I am writing to you so we can take next steps to resolve this completely egregious situation. I will never be stepping foot in that terrible hotel again.
Great place to stay with children! WE loved it! Three pools and gorgeous grounds. We enjoyed the happy hour and the breakfast on the patio. The staff were very accommodating. The kid pool was a lot of fun.
This place has so much history, has great/attentive staff, great food and drinks, has multiple pools and is just a walk away from downtown. Its great for a girls weekend, couples trip away or a trip with your family (my sister, mom and I came and had a great weekend!). I'm not sure I'd bring my little kids but I'm definitely coming back with my husband and friends.
Beautiful pools, great service and staff, good food. Excellent place to come for sun by the pool. Beautiful bungalows with private balconies. Great location with Rite Aid across the parking lot and downtown a street over. Mostly stayed onsite with such a great location.
The Avalon hotel and bungalows were a fantastic place for a relaxing vacation. Walking distance to downtown Palm Springs, included valet, attentive service and beautiful grounds put this place well above the competition. I will definitely stay there again!
