How to Get There
My husband and I were celebrating our one year anniversary and decided to take a chance on JW Marriott Desert Springs. We have stayed at Renaissance Indian Wells for over 6+ years now and wanted to try out the resort since all of our family and friends raved about it. We decided to book May 17-19 in a resort king. At check in I made it clear I wanted a high room floor that was quiet since we were celebrating not only our anniversary but our first getaway in a long time. The representative insisted this was a great room and we took it. The first night was great, nice and peaceful, with the family pool right next to us being completely empty. The room we were in 5004 to be exact was extremely out dated. The iHome device in the room was only compatible to iPhones 5 and earlier..? Who even has an iPhone that old anymore? Anyways, we thought we had found our new place to stay. The second night all of that changed. Apparently prom was taking place Saturday night that no one thought guests should know about. Our balcony glass doors were banging for 4 hours straight. We made staff aware of the issue and it didn't seem like they cared. Basically just deal with it...However I made it clear I wanted a quiet room for our stay. The next morning we were greeted by loud banging on the roof at 8 am!!! Apparently construction was taking place on the roof??? We called the front desk and again they didn't care to adress the issue or even feel any kind of sympathy. As an elite member and who has stayed at numerous properties I know how great customer service can and should be. This was not the resort that cared about their guests. I have another stay booked at the resort in July and I think I'll be canceling. There is just no respect or any kind of customer service which I would be willing to go back to the resort for.
Quick stop for lunch and wanted to see the flamingoes that live here ... which were spectacular!
We ate downstairs in the grill ... the lady at front desk was on the phone & didn’t acknowledge our arrival. When she got off the phone she proceeded to show another party to a table who had arrived after us .... I was very annoyed as we had already been there for 5 minutes waiting.
I found someone else who showed us to a ‘booth’ and nearly hit my chin on the table - the chairs were so worn out the padding and springs were broken so you physically sat too low for the tables. Theses chairs need replaced desperately.
When we sat down there were 6 members of staff talking at the waiter station (see photo) and no-one acknowledged our arrival .... we again had to ask someone to get menus and water.
Our food came out - my husband ordered mushroom pizza which was great but my chicken & noodle dish was very disappointing .... it was all fat on the chicken & the noodles were a blob of fried noodles that weren’t edible .... I complained to the waitress & the manager came over to talk to us and apologise (but she didn’t take it off the bill).i even showed her photos of the dish when it arrived at the table (I had taken it for my review), ... so I just sent it back & shared my husbands pizza cause I was starving.
The waitress was great, and she took the chicken dish off the bill, so we left her extra tip because this review does not reflect her service.
Marriott you need staff training on front desk, replace the chairs at booths, and sort out the chicken supplier so it’s not so fatty.
This must have been the 10th (or so) time that we stopped here. In all those times, we have had very few issues. This time, we stayed two nights (4/28-4/30), and had no issues at all. We did not hear or see any construction, perhaps because our wing had already been remodeled, and now, we were on the other side, and far away from it. We were not even aware that it was going on, until I read some current reviews.
We always luck out, and get a high floor facing the pool. It's so enjoyable to sit on the balcony, and look out at the gorgeous view. This time, because the Hotel was packed due to "Stagecoach" (Country Music Festival), we were given a lower floor room, overlooking a side courtyard. We did have a balcony, but were not too happy, at first, as there were all these busses outside, loudly running their engines (or air-conditioning systems). We figured correctly, that sooner or later they would be gone, as they had come to collect Festival goers. And by evening, all was quiet.
We moved ourselves out on the balcony after a late dinner, and all of a sudden, those busses started coming back. All packed with people, many of them wearing cowboy boots. However, the busses would drop them, and run off to collect more people, so it became fun to watch them. Before we knew it, it was 12:30 am, and we were still watching busses. What a unique fun experience!
The beds and pillows (as always) are very comfortable, and we slept like logs. The newly remodeled room, was restful on the eyes, and we enjoyed our dinners, and one breakfast. Like to walk around the Lobby and grounds, check out the Gift Shops, and have a short chat with the Tropical Birds. We really love this Hotel.
I was here for a business trip - but for a JW Marriott this place was underwhelming. The property is massive - it took me quite awhile to walk to the only gym. For Palm Springs - the pools were boring and blah. As others reviewers said - I also heard quite a bit of construction noise during the day when I was trying to work. It was also very hard to cool the room - it must get very hot in summer. Overall it was just ok. If it was my money I would not return.
From 7:45am to around 6pm. There was constant hammering and drilling. Could be heard from many rooms on the property and was very loud. I had other business associates here and they all heard it and drove them crazy as well. Hopefully they finish this soon for future guests but I think it’s still hot weeks to go. It was a miserable stay because of the noise.
