Sprawling family-friendly resort between the city center and the airport, with three pools, tennis courts, and 18 dining options
In a neighborhood that is home to diplomats and politicians a 20-minute drive from the center of Cairo, the Hilton Cairo Heliopolis is a sprawling resort with impressive amenities for families and business travelers. The interiors combine modern decor and Egyptian heritage, and the grounds are studded with palm trees. Standard rooms measure in at 269 square feet and offer soundproofing, state-of-the-art media panels that link iPods and other technology to 42-inch flat-screen televisions, and private patios with views of the city, gardens or pool area. Suites measure up to 1,776 square feet and feature separate living areas, butler service and hardwood floors. Guests can sample cuisine from all over the globe without leaving the property, including Italian classics at Leonardo’s, Mexican fare at Maria’s, and Lebanese favorites at Al Dabké (such as minced lamb mixed with parsley and onion, or eggplant served with chickpeas and tomatoes). For relaxation and entertainment, the hotel features Jacuzzis and saunas, three adult swimming pools and one children’s pool, as well as tennis, squash and volleyball courts, making it an excellent choice for active families.
In the Area
Cairo is teeming with mysterious wonders and historical gems (starting with, of course, the pyramids and the Sphinx). Within a short drive of the hotel you’ll find the Palace of Baron Empain, built by the founder of the modern Heliopolis area, and Al Kanesah Al Muallaqah (the hanging church), a stunning cathedral laden with mosaics. Shoppers will encounter a number of shopping malls in Cairo, in addition to unusual marketplaces, like the Khan el-Khalili souk for handicrafts and the Street of the Tentmakers—another hub for local artisans. On the other side of town, Saigon restaurant serves Asian fusion with floor-to-ceiling windows that overlook the Nile. In the evening be sure to catch a traditional belly dance show.
