Overview

Posh casino resort with world class gaming and dining, plus a glass-domed rooftop overlooking the harbor

The Lowdown

With its creamy white exterior and unique glass-domed rooftop, the Pullman Reef Hotel Casino is one of Queensland’s most iconic hotels. Benefitting from a super-central location in downtown Cairns, with sweeping views of the ocean and marina, this five-star resort offers world class gaming, dining and lodging. The 128 guestrooms and suites are decorated in honey and chocolate tones, with private balconies and floor-to-ceiling views of the city, the pool or the serene Trinity Inlet. Try your luck at the blackjack table or at one of the 500 electronic gaming stations, then refuel at one of three restaurants. Tamarind, a wood-paneled dining room with plantation-style shutters, serves award-winning Asian fusion fare. After dinner check out the three bars on offer. There are live bands at Vertigo Bar, movie screenings at Casino Sports Arena and late night guest DJs at Velvet Underground, the resort’s own nightclub. Don’t leave without visiting the Cairns Wildlife Dome on the roof: Turtles, pythons and crocodiles are all on display at this spectacular all-weather exhibit.

In the Area

Cairn’s greatest draw is without a doubt the Great Barrier Reef. Some of the world’s best diving sites are here, of course, but for non-divers, glass-bottomed boats or semi-submarines also let you visit the dazzling marine life. Adventure sports are popular too: skydiving, bungee jumping and whitewater rafting, to name but a few. For a more tranquil experience, head north to Daintree Rainforest, the oldest surviving rain forest in the world. Arrange a daytime or nocturnal nature tour for a chance to see the flora and fauna up close.

Awesome as usual!

Every time we stay there it is just wonderful. From being greeted at the door by our favourite Concierge Matthew, to the frequent upgrades and the little loyalty gifts it’s always so lovely. We look forward to our next visit.

Perfect Stay!

The service provided at this hotel is outstanding! From check in, room cleaners, floor cleaners, security, concierge, restaurant and casino staff, it was always perfect and 5 star plus! Every single person employed by this hotel/casino complex that I encountered provided exceptional service. I had 2 separate bookings, long story....first night they didn't have the view room I booked, but upgraded me to a junior suite to make up for it. The room was amazing, and they gave me the option of staying in it for the 3 nights, but I opted for the downgraded room with a view for the next 2 nights. And I'm sure glad I did! The view was one of the best I've ever had and I really enjoyed having a nespresso (they have a machine with supplies in the room) out on the balcony, and one night got some take away food & ate it on the balcony watching the sun go down and the bats flying over. The breakfast buffet didn't have a huge selection, but they did have a continental option for vegetarians which was excellent value. The fruit, pastries & coffee were wonderful and once again, the service was excellent each time I went. The location of the hotel is perfect, the casino is small but fun. There's also a bar outside the casino which had bands playing and was lively (it was St Patrick's day weekend when I was there). I highly recommend this hotel and can't wait to go back and stay there again!

If you are taking a cruise from Cairns, its the perfect hotel

You can literally pull your luggage to the cruise port, no taxi needed. The rooms were lovely, and the food at the Tamarind restaurant was excellent. It is located within walking distance to downtown, and across from the boardwalk along the ocean where all the restaurants with patios are.

Excellent service and a comfortable stay

The front desk staff and concierges Matthew and Michael were very helpful. Our rooms were spacious, very clean, and comfortable. I thought the hotel would be crowded and busy due to the casino, but actually the hotel was very quiet. The casino is at the opposite end of the property, and I barely noticed it. The Tamarind restaurant was excellent. I wasn't told about any wildlife on the roof when I checked in (only learned of it when reading other review here) but would have liked to see it. We did not check out the pools since it was rainy season. The location of the hotel by the reef was really convenient for our Great Barrier Reef tour.

We where travelling for a month around Australia and the Far East and this hotel was our absolute favourite of the whole trip. The water view room was wonderful and so spacious and even a view from the spa bath. The staff where all lovely with a special mention for Anne on reception. We loved Cairns and hope to return some day. 💕🇦🇺
