A history-steeped Relais & Châteaux property in the romantic heart of Bruges, with an intimate ambience and a superb location - includes breakfast
It’s easy to be seduced by the Belgium city of Bruges. Nicknamed the Venice of the North for its gorgeous canals and waterways, it’s a fairytale-like place packed out with awe-inspiring Gothic buildings, cobbled streets, quaint medieval houses, fascinating museums and wonderful open-air markets. And the beer, chips and gourmet chocolate aren’t bad either.
Set in the centre of what has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000, this private 19th-century mansion opened as a four-star hotel in 1993. Following renovations in 2008, it now comes with a fitness centre housed in the ancient cellar, stylish bar and stunning-restaurant that has two forks in the Michelin Guide for its modern Belgian-French cuisine.
The treats continue in the 22 unique guest rooms and suites, all of which pile on the luxe with grandiose décor, lavish furnishings, rich fabrics, carpeted flooring, lovely marble-clad bathrooms and a truly homely vibe. But it’s the thoughtful extras that bring things right up to date; mostly the flatscreen TVs, Nespresso machines and writing desks with iPads. Relais & Châteaux Hotel Heritage was unsurprisingly awarded the title of Best Luxury Boutique Hotel at the World Luxury Hotel Awards in 2014.
