Overview
The Review
For artsy types visiting Vancouver, the Listel is a go-to destination, showcasing the city’s unique brand of downtown cool between the financial district and the residential West End neighborhood. On one of the city’s most famous shopping and dining thoroughfares, Robson Street, the Listel is a great base for a city break, within walking distance of leafy Stanley Park and Coal Harbour.

It’s also known for nightly jazz events, and it hosts the city’s big-deal culture festivals, including the Vancouver International Jazz Festival and the International Film Festival.
The art-and-culture theme extends to the guestrooms, especially the two Museum floors, which have an elegant gallery vibe and pay tribute to all things British Columbian. The hotel partnered with the Museum of Anthropology to create traditional carvings in the headboards and armoires, and works by printmakers and local potters provide unique accents. The result is West Coast modern with a twist, and very cool indeed.
Other rooms display work by a single artist (curated by the Buschlen Mowatt Galleries in Vancouver), and all mix a traditional dark wood and gilded frames look, with modern amenities and comforts.
The on-site restaurant, O’Doul’s, is a Vancouver institution, famous with locals as a spot for cocktails and great jazz at night, and lively brunches on the weekend. (I love the Haida Benedict with smoked wild salmon.) The menu leans toward classic Pacific Northwest dishes, so expect a lot of seafood and mostly sustainable and organic ingredients. It’s worth lingering over the award-winning wine list, which mixes regional British Columbia blends with other New World additions.

Weather related flight delay required overnight stay at short notice. Staff extremely helpful during booking process and welcoming upon arrival. Room well furnished and comforatble and breakfast excellent
Stay-cation in our own city. Nice place. 4th floor out of 6. View of the alley. Clean, comfortable and close to everything we needed. The bill was one of the strangest I have seen: GST; PST; Facility & ECO Fee; GST on Facility Fee; Destination and Marketing Fee; GST on that; PST on that; MRDT? on that; Parking ($31.00 for 1 night!!); Translink Tax on Parking; GST on Parking. So for a $164.25/night room the bill was $241.42.
We spent the night at the Listel when coming down for a hockey game. The location, the staff and the rooms went beyond our expectations and we will definitely stay here again. Would highly recommend if you want a place near the city but not in the thick of it.
Centrally located to all conveniences. Wonderful restaurants close by to suit the tastes of all. Fantastic hotel staff that were inviting and quick to assist you in any way they could. Wonderfully comfortable beds and the best pillows I have encountered in many years.
I enjoyed my stay at The Listel while in Vancouver recently. My room was clean, check in staff excellent and the location is great. One feature that certainly will make me return is the filtered water dispenser, which also dispenses carbonated water. This was a really nice feature to have. The price was very good for downtown Vancouver at the time of year I went (February). I did struggle a bit with the HVAC as the room was too hot for my comfort and the wall control would not respond to a lower temperature setting, I opened the windows at night to cool the room which was fine. I will definitely consider this hotel in the future.
