How to Get There
Shangri-La is simply the best. From the moment of arrival to checking out you receive top notch service. We drove up to the valet which is located on the lower level and were instantly welcomed by 2 attendants. The hotel is located on Georgia street, but the parking entrance is on the side street. We stayed in a room with 2 double beds. The room was a good size with very comfortable beds. I slept like a baby. The bathroom has a separate tub and shower, a small TV, and 1 sink. There's a TV located in the bedroom as well, a security box, iron, and mini bar.
Shangri-La is located perfectly. Only 1 block from all the high end stores which are on Alberti Street, 2 blocks from Robson Street, a 10 min walk to the waterfront, and about a 5 min drive to Gastown. The hotel offers a complimentary car service which runs until 10pm and is first come first serve We found it to be mostly available. I would like to suggest extending the time till at least 11pm on weekends.
Shangri-La has 1 restaurant called Market by Jean-Georges. Besides indoor seating there's a very nice outdoor patio with heaters and blankets. A happy hour is held from 4-6pm and 9pm-to close The restaurant has good food. I definitely recommend getting a couple of cocktails and the charcuterie board, its really good. Don't miss breakfast, its SO fantastic! For sure get the Brioche French Toast. I'd suggest splitting that and another dish with someone. Portions are large.
The hotel offers complimentary Wifi which works well. Valet parking is only available and costs $47 Canadian. I suggest leaving your car at the hotel beacuase Vancouver is known for its car break-ins. Walk or take a taxi/uber. A cab ride from Gastown to the hotel costs about $6 Canadian with tip.
Shangri-La has an outside pool which is heated and a spa. Unfortantely, I didn't get a chance to use the spa. Hopefully, next time.
On our last day we were able to leave our luggage and car until we were ready to leave town.
Keep on Traveling!!!
We spent two nights in Vancouver at the Shangri-La hotel. The hotel is located in a very convenient location in downtown. Finding the parking garage was a bit tricky but once we settled in the stay was great! We enjoyed our spacious room as well as dinner at their restaurant. There is also an Urban Fare store right outside the hotel which was very convenient. We did find the pool area to be pretty small for such a large hotel but the health club facility was very nice. This is definitely a place we'd return to.
Rooms were exquisite, concierge had contacts all over town and was extremely accommodating, making dinner reservations and tour arrangements. The restaurant would be worth a visit even if you stay some where else. I would not stay any where else in Vancouver.
We had stayed in at a Shangri La in Hong Kong many years ago...so when I saw there was one in Vancouver I jumped at the chance to book a room and we were not disappointed. My husband and I were celebrating our 65th together . Everything was perfect. The room was lovely, the service was fantastic at every turn. We had the same wonderful server, Watana, for breakfast each moring. Always making sure we were well taken care if.
Dinner there was a true dining experience. We had the wine pairing dinner and each dish was pure heaven...the presentation, the service and the food could not have been better.
The concierge set up a day tour and was so very informative. She really went out of her way to hear what we were asking for and we had a fabulous day thanks to her on the hop on hop off tour including the unexpected naked bike riders passing us by!
Our last night there was Canada day and the streets were packed. We went downstairs to the concierge and asked if he could get us a cab as all cabs were filled do to the holiday. We were also running late for our dinner reservations. He made a call for us and the cab was there in just a couple of minutes.
Attention to detail made our trip as good as it could have possibly been without us ever asking for it to be that way...it was just...well...perfect! We will be back. Vancouver and this hotel are a very special place. Thank you Shangri La for providing a special birthday for us.
My corner room was great - small sitting area and a very comfortable bed / bedding. Bathroom was large and well appointed. The only downside is the entrance. The main entrance is below ground and a strange set up. I’d stay here again
