How to Get There
If you are booking a suite stay above the 10th floor. Our suite was on the 6th floor and there was so much noise from the street. We were on our honeymoon we informed the hotel 8 months earlier. We were treated no differently than any other guest. Next time we are going back to Niteroi way better views a better hotels.
I booked this hotel and it was exceptional. it was in the heart of the Copacabana. The staff was unbelievable and i recommend this hotel. I did not have to leave the hotel for anything. They also assisted me with booking tours and exchange. Everything I could imagine they provided. I love PortoBay! !!
My family decided to spend a very special vacation in Brazil, and Rio was to be our first stop. I did a lot of research and put a lot of thought into our hotel choice. A few days in Rio would be incredible no matter where you stay, but staying in the right place can make the difference between a very good and an unforgettable experience (as can staying in the wrong place do the opposite). We definitely made the right choice in the PortoBay as it definitely enhanced our trip.
The important factors to me in selecting a property and room type were the location, the size of the room and number of beds (we are two adults and one teenage child), the view, the level of service (largely judged by the TripAdvisor reviews), and the overall value. The PortoBay checks all the boxes and then some. The one thing that initially drew me to the property is the fact that almost no hotels in Rio have balconies. If I can going to be staying right on one of the world’s most renowned beaches, I really want to have a balcony so that I can fully enjoy it. We opted for an Ocean View Suite and ended up on the 15th floor (room 1501). The room was very spacious even with an extra bed added for our daughter. The view was incredible. The staff were top notch, from the sparkling wine upon arrival (and the refill to take up to our room) to the breakfast staff, to the helpful folks at the front desk answering all my questions and providing some great recommendations.
In my opinion, you cannot beat the location. The section of Copacabana beach right across the street was great. The sand was soft, the water was warm, and the waves and currents just strong enough to make it fun and exciting. It was great to have the complimentary chairs, towels and umbrellas from the hotel as well as the beers and caipirinhas that were served to us on the sand. The rooftop pool was nice, but really secondary to the beach. The metro is just a couple of blocks away which can zip you in no time to Ipenama, Centro, or to other destinations. We also had no problems getting around via Uber. Breakfast was also top notch, having a couple of early morning mimosas would get our day off to a great start. We also booked airport transfers through the hotel which were reasonable and prompt.
In my opinion, the PortoBay is the perfect Rio hotel. Great rooms, great location, great staff, great experience. Highly recommended!
