High-rise beauty overlooking one of Rio’s most famous beaches, with panoramic views from the rooftop pool

The Lowdown

It doesn’t get much more iconic Rio than this: a contemporary, sexy hotel fronting one of the city’s most famous beaches, Copacabana, and within strolling distance of another, Ipanema. The 200-room Miramar offers butler service and pool and beach attendants on hand to cater to guests’ every vacation whim. The lobby restaurant, Sá, offers a primer in local Brazilian cuisine (Carioca, which is also the term for Rio’s inhabitants). Relax under an umbrella on the wide, sandy beach in front of the hotel, or retire to the rooftop to work out in the fitness center, sweat it out in the sauna or just laze with a caipirinha by the infinity pool.

In the Area

Drag yourself away from the beach to take in a performance at the magnificent Municipal Theater in nearby downtown Rio. This Belle Epoque opera house, modeled on the Paris Opera, offers a year-round program and daily guided tours. Indulge your carnivore instincts at a churrascaria, Brazil’s version of BBQ; the Ipanema branch of the famed Porcão Rio offers a groaning buffet of grilled meats that’s sure to hit the spot. After dark sample some of Rio’s famous nightlife, which encompasses everything from casual botequim (bars or cafés) to high-octane discos, many situated on Atlantica Avenue, within staggering distance of the hotel.

Wonderful stay overall but spoilt by poor check out.

The location of this hotel is wonderful - right on the Copacabana beach with a beach service that provides you with towels, chairs and umbrellas. Our room had a partial ocean view and was well furnished with prints of Pão de Açúcar and a nice bathroom with luxury toiletries. They give you a big bottle of water per day and chocolates for turndown. We even got an Easter egg! Strangely no tea bags in the room so I got my own and used the coffee machine to heat water.

The check in was polite and friendly with lots of information. Most staff spoke good English.

The rooftop pool is small but I got a swim in between the kids...

Don’t use their expensive transfer service. We took a taxi from airport desk for one third of the price and reception helped us get a fixed price taxi back after our stay.

Now, this was going to be a 5* review right up to checkout. We got down about 650am to check out and get our taxi. The receptionist was a bit aloof and didn’t say much. He asked about the minibar and I confirmed we had not used it. He then just tapped away on the keyboard without saying anything. I was about to ask if there was a problem as he was not looking at me and didn’t ask if I had enjoyed my stay. Then he said that housekeeping said we had a bottle of wine from the minibar. I told him again that we had never used the minibar. He had to print out a receipt that I signed to say I had NOT used the minibar. So either they are making administration mistakes or someone is taking minibar items and charging them to guests. We were delayed getting our taxi and felt uncomfortable about the way this was handled. What a shame as all other staff were so nice.

Good overall

The hotel is well situated with lots of stores and restaurants nearby. The security is high priority so no problem about that.
Service was excellent and the staff if very friendly.
Breakfast buffet was good, loved the fruit selection👍
Rooftop pool was rather small but I think it is mostly used to take pictures😁 the view is amazing.
The only thing I didn’t like is the bathroom towels : they look kinda grey I assume for being used so many years😊 management should definitely purchase new towels or add bleach to wash the ones they have as towels like that are not up to a 5 star hotel standard other than that - excellent.

Outstanding hotel on Copacabana Beach

It really is a pleasure writing a review on the Miramar Hotel. We have stayed at many hotels and this is just a top hotel in every category!! We had a wonderful room (1001) and had a great view of the beach. Our spotless room was large with a lovely bathroom and a comfortable king size bed. Every employee of the hotel went out of their way to be welcoming and friendly, but some names that i remember are Serjeo and Paulo at the front desk, who went our of their way to help us with our ride to the airport and helped us with our room.....Jay who was in charge of our luggage, was so friendly & professional and proud he has been at the hotel for 7 years.... the hostesses of the restaurant and the waiters, who helped me with my gluten free meals.....they all are excellent ambassadors for the hotel. The breakfast buffet is just delicious!! We were so impressed with the choices (omelets, pancakes, waffles, fresh fruits, cheeses, meats, cereals, etc.) and the waiters (Nunio?)are most pleasant!! The location of the hotel is excellent and the beach boys set up Miramar chairs and umbrellas for you. The beach is great fun, as is the rooftop pool!! You cannot go wrong choosing the Miramar and we highly recommend it.

Very Comfortable

This was our last hotel on our tour of South America and was definitely the best. The rooms weren't huge, but very comfortable. Location was great with Copacabana Beach directly opposite and the main shopping street and restaurants directly behind. The breakfast room had the best spread of beautiful fruits etc, even champagne for breakfast if you chose....which we did on our last morning just because we could. The Rooftop bar was a great place to hang out with stunning views up and down Copacabana Beach and even a view of the favela up the mountain behind us. We spent quite a bit of time up at the rooftop bar where we could buy light meals for lunch or dinner whilst taking in the view and sunshine. There is an infinity pool up there as well so nice to be able to sit in the pool with an uninterrupted view of the beach and beyond. If you prefer to spend your time at the beach the hotel offers a free deckchair and umbrella service. Just collect your pool towel from the concierge at the front door who will give you a ticket to take to the guy on the beach. He will set the chairs and umbrella up for you and when you're done, just walk away. A really great service to make your stay even more enjoyable and make the most of your time at Copacabana Beach. Service was impeccable with everyone we encountered and the lobby was very comfortable to hang around when waiting for airport transfers etc.
