It doesn’t get much more iconic Rio than this: a contemporary, sexy hotel fronting one of the city’s most famous beaches, Copacabana, and within strolling distance of another, Ipanema. The 200-room Miramar offers butler service and pool and beach attendants on hand to cater to guests’ every vacation whim. The lobby restaurant, Sá, offers a primer in local Brazilian cuisine (Carioca, which is also the term for Rio’s inhabitants). Relax under an umbrella on the wide, sandy beach in front of the hotel, or retire to the rooftop to work out in the fitness center, sweat it out in the sauna or just laze with a caipirinha by the infinity pool.
In the Area
Drag yourself away from the beach to take in a performance at the magnificent Municipal Theater in nearby downtown Rio. This Belle Epoque opera house, modeled on the Paris Opera, offers a year-round program and daily guided tours. Indulge your carnivore instincts at a churrascaria, Brazil’s version of BBQ; the Ipanema branch of the famed Porcão Rio offers a groaning buffet of grilled meats that’s sure to hit the spot. After dark sample some of Rio’s famous nightlife, which encompasses everything from casual botequim (bars or cafés) to high-octane discos, many situated on Atlantica Avenue, within staggering distance of the hotel.
How to Get There
Hotels are awarded stars which apply to that country, this hotel is awarded 5 stars for Brazil, all around the world it would be rated 3 star at best. On arrival we were given a glass of fizz which was a nice touch, here ended the quality. We were allocated a room on the second floor, we didn’t unpack and complained about traffic noise, we were moved to the 7th floor and for our cheek of complaining our new room was next to the lifts. The doors to each room do not close quietly and there is banging noise each night until everyone on your floor has gone to bed, then people leave their rooms early to do excursions so the banging starts again.
The batteries in the tv remote were badly corroded, obviously previous guests had not tried the tv or didn’t get them changed, I wonder if housekeeping ever check anything. There is a Nespresso coffee machine in the room but you have pay for the pods, they are not cheap. As we always take our own kettle we asked for 2 cups and a small amount of skimmed milk, on arrival to the room also came a bill for 18 Rhea, sent the cheeky fellow on his way without signing or taking the milk. Breakfast had a good choice of foods but the hot food wasn’t hot. There are lots of waiters but they spend more time talking to each other than clearing tables. There is a small roof top pool and bar, again, way over staffed, there is repetitive music being played constantly, after an hour you feel like jumping off the roof. When the weather is poor there is no real space to sit, relax and read other than your room. The bar area is a small area in reception, not a great place to relax and enjoy a drink. On a positive note we had dinner in the restaurant one evening and it was very good. All in all I would not recommend this hotel as it is of poor quality with poor service.
The hotel is great located at the end of Copacabana beach so from the rooftop you can enjoy brilliant view to all Copacabana and the Sugarloaf from the other site you have view to favela. Breakfast was awesome 👏
My wife and I have just spent 2 nights at the Miramat hotel by Windsor and couldn’t really fault it. Our room was spacious and extremely comfortable . The staff were helpful and willing. The breakfast was excellent with massive of choice and really fresh fruit. Delicious. And being just the other side of the road from Copacabana beach meant we had 2 amazing days over the weekend there. To make things perfect they give you 2 beaches towels to take with you which then gets you 2 chairs and an umbrella on the beach. Couldn’t have enjoyed our stay more
We are still staying in this hotel, and have tried to pay our bill as we leave tomorrow morning. I was informed by the very nice and polite gentleman at the desk, that I could not pay now as they have to check the room before I leave. Seriously? I am well over 50, look my age, and even look reasonably respectable. I realized quite how offensive this is when we came up to the room, and asked to speak to the duty manager. There is no duty manager, and the general manager cannot be reached. I suggested to the nice gentleman from the desk that he might like to come and check the minibar, and he took me up on my offer! It is gone 11 at night. He turned up with a colleague to count the bottles, and then explained that when I had heard a previous (apparently trusted) guest being asked whether they had consumed anything from the minibar before checking out (as I have been asked, in countless hotels, all over the world), that was not in accordance with hotel policy. In fairness, he did decline to count the towels...
By the way the room is perfectly nice and well appointed, and the sea view is excellent: but, boy, does that come at a price!
Oh, the Nespresso machine in the room, whose presence the trumpet, can only be used for an additional charge. We have not nicked the capsules.
Unbeatable luxurios hotel chosen by my girlfriend to celebrate my birthday. The level of customer service, quality of food and confort of the room was of the highest I've experienced. Congratulations to an excelent team of profesionals who made my birthday weekend unforgetable. Highly recomendable!!!
