It doesn’t get much more iconic Rio than this: a contemporary, sexy hotel fronting one of the city’s most famous beaches, Copacabana, and within strolling distance of another, Ipanema. The 200-room Miramar offers butler service and pool and beach attendants on hand to cater to guests’ every vacation whim. The lobby restaurant, Sá, offers a primer in local Brazilian cuisine (Carioca, which is also the term for Rio’s inhabitants). Relax under an umbrella on the wide, sandy beach in front of the hotel, or retire to the rooftop to work out in the fitness center, sweat it out in the sauna or just laze with a caipirinha by the infinity pool.
In the Area
Drag yourself away from the beach to take in a performance at the magnificent Municipal Theater in nearby downtown Rio. This Belle Epoque opera house, modeled on the Paris Opera, offers a year-round program and daily guided tours. Indulge your carnivore instincts at a churrascaria, Brazil’s version of BBQ; the Ipanema branch of the famed Porcão Rio offers a groaning buffet of grilled meats that’s sure to hit the spot. After dark sample some of Rio’s famous nightlife, which encompasses everything from casual botequim (bars or cafés) to high-octane discos, many situated on Atlantica Avenue, within staggering distance of the hotel.
How to Get There
Great location in middle of Copacabana beach and lots of places to eat nearby. Lovely views from 16th floor pool and bar area. Extremely impressive buffet breakfast selection - good Wi-Fi and very helpful staff who provided us with power adapters.
I cannot praise this hotel enough.
We stayed for 6 nights in September 2019 and when we arrived our room was upgraded which was a lovely start.
Our room was massive and spotless with a huge comfy bed, and the best curtains ever (the room was pitch black even in daylight when they were drawn).
All of the staff were amazing and everyone spoke good English (which was great as our Portuguese is non existent!)
The pool and rooftop bar were lovely and we enjoyed a drink up there everyday, as well as lunch a few times. The pool area isn’t big though and on our final day we headed up about 10am and there were no loungers left and only a few seats (it was usually fine though, just to be aware you might want to head up early). The view over the Copacabana was amazing.
Breakfast was great, huge selection.
I would have liked a kettle so I could have made tea in the room - there is a Nespresso machine but each capsule thing is about 9 real I think.
Overall it’s a wonderful hotel and we had an amazing stay. If I’m ever lucky enough to go back to Rio I will definitely stay here again.
I was here 3 days with family and the staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The breakfast was one of the best I have had ever traveling. Highly recommend it. The beds were also very comfortable after a long flight with room darkening shades! I can't recommend this place enough and wish we could have stayed longer!
