Overview

High-rise beauty overlooking one of Rio’s most famous beaches, with panoramic views from the rooftop pool

The Lowdown

It doesn’t get much more iconic Rio than this: a contemporary, sexy hotel fronting one of the city’s most famous beaches, Copacabana, and within strolling distance of another, Ipanema. The 200-room Miramar offers butler service and pool and beach attendants on hand to cater to guests’ every vacation whim. The lobby restaurant, Sá, offers a primer in local Brazilian cuisine (Carioca, which is also the term for Rio’s inhabitants). Relax under an umbrella on the wide, sandy beach in front of the hotel, or retire to the rooftop to work out in the fitness center, sweat it out in the sauna or just laze with a caipirinha by the infinity pool.

In the Area

Drag yourself away from the beach to take in a performance at the magnificent Municipal Theater in nearby downtown Rio. This Belle Epoque opera house, modeled on the Paris Opera, offers a year-round program and daily guided tours. Indulge your carnivore instincts at a churrascaria, Brazil’s version of BBQ; the Ipanema branch of the famed Porcão Rio offers a groaning buffet of grilled meats that’s sure to hit the spot. After dark sample some of Rio’s famous nightlife, which encompasses everything from casual botequim (bars or cafés) to high-octane discos, many situated on Atlantica Avenue, within staggering distance of the hotel.

Great location

The hotel is above average but with a great location on copacabana beach! Our view from the room was spectacular. The beach access is very convenient. Breakfast was very good. Service was excellent! The value for the money was exceptional since it’s much cheaper than a lot of hotels on the strip but with excellent views & location. Views from the rooftop pool were amazing!!

I'd stay here again

I chose this hotel because it was rated #1 in Copacabana here on TripAdvisor. The customer service was five star! The concierge, bus boys, doormen, wait staff and hospitality where all very friendly and helpful. They did not disappoint.

The hotel is centrally located. It was easy to walk to shops, restaurants, both Copacabana and Ipanema beaches (and even a yoga studio that the front desk looked up for me--Ananda Espacio do Yoga). The view of the city/beach from the rooftop pool is breathtaking and great for pictures! You can walk directly across the street to the beach. In the evenings, there are vendors along the beach where you can buy souvenirs. On Sundays they close down one side of the street for bike riding, skating, walking and jogging.

The room was what I expected from any hotel. The double bed was very spacious and comfortable for my husband and I. Our partial Ocean View room was nice too. However, there is an apartment building directly across from the hotel that you can look directly into people's homes. And it seens like they ding have an eco-friendly policy because our towels were taken everyday regardless of whether we hung them up or left them on the floor.

There were only two things that I did not like:
1) The walls were thin. Our room was by the 11th floor elevator and we could hear people coming off and getting on. We could also hear the some conversations of our neighbors.
2) They serve the same thing for breakfast everyday. The wait staff was awesome everyday--they remembered our coffee/juice/water preferences. Despite the fact that the breakfast is included in the room's price and is an array of fruits, breads, cereals, cheeses, meats, an omelette station, etc...it still gets old after a couple of days. ...The dinner at the Alloy restaurant was delicious. The filet mignon was so good, I ordered it two different nights.

I'd stay here again.

Exemplary Service and Accomodations

We’re finishing our last day in the hotel currently. Everything from our arrival to departure was nothing but spectacular while staying at the hotel. I’ve done a lot of traveling in Brazil over the years my Portuguese is mediocre. So it was a pleasant shock to find many of the staff in the hotel speak English.

Our flights were canceled and shifted around. We ended up arriving at the hotel at 7:30am. We were exhausted and only expected them to be able to watch out bags while we went and did some sightseeing prior to check-in. They went out of their way and checked us in at that time for no additional charge and also upgraded our room at no charge. It was a pleasant shock to be able and go get some rest after being awake for the last 24 hours.

The breakfast buffet is the best I’ve come across anywhere in my travels. Ensure you book your room with that in the price, as it is a bit pricey if you don’t get it with your room.

The pool and pool bar were amazing. We spent many a evening watching the sunset from the rooftop pool.
