Colonial-style sleep opposite Fenway Park, with modern accents, a resto-lounge and a dedicated Baseball Suite
Hotel Commonwealth feels very much like the city that surrounds it, with a classic American style that blends the traditional and the modern. The lobby and public spaces feel a bit like a colonial mansion, with ornate carpeting, large antique-style furnishings and a staff that’s eager to help. But it’s the integration of the modern — a happening lounge/restaurant, WiFi everywhere, easy access to the T — that makes the hotel such a popular choice in this part of town.
Bed and Bath
The integration of proper Bostonian style continues in the 149 spacious guestrooms and suites, where classic furnishings including armoires and brass lamps are mixed with such modern amenities as 48-inch Smart TVs and even a PlayStation 2 (by request). Each room has a selection of books by Massachusetts area writers, as well as a DVD player to take advantage of the hotel’s 200-title library. The marble bathrooms have luxe extras including plush Frette robes and Malin + Goetz brand toiletries.
The hotel’s Eastern Standard Kitchen & Drinks is one of the neighborhood’s most acclaimed eateries (and on weekend nights, one of its busiest lounge scenes); it offers a mix of European and New England favorites, including mussels and frog’s leg ragout. Or, head to Island Creek Oyster Bar to tuck into some of the city’s freshest seafood. You’ll also find a smattering of boutiques and a small fitness center.
In the Area
The property is across the street from the historic icon that Bostonians admire most (yes, Fenway Park); you can’t leave without catching a game or at least touring the Green Monster. Explore the historic sites of Boston’s colonial past on the Freedom Trail, with helpful painted walkways that wind around the city’s famed locations. Visit the Museum of Fine Arts, which houses vast, varied and revered art collections from the far reaches of the globe. And check out the shops and cafés lining Newbury Street.
