Mod Kimpton hotel, with a hip Miami vibe, lobby lounge and a central downtown address
With its modern, design-forward interiors and hip Miami vibe, it's easy to forget that Nine Zero is in the heart of historic Boston, directly across the street from Samuel Adams’s grave. In contrast to the city’s cobblestone streets just outside, Nine Zero's lobby is full of oil paintings, bronze sculptures, hand-blown glass chandeliers and rows of limestone coffee tables.
Bed and Bath
Down the street from the state house and Beacon Hill, Nine Zero has hosted the who’s who of Hollywood and Washington, from Lady Gaga and Christina Aguilera to Presidents Clinton and Obama. Guestrooms offer the requisite comforts — flat-screen TVs and custom-designed beds — plus welcome design flair in the bright fabrics, faux fur throws and marble and chrome bathrooms. Good for groups, Queen Queen Rooms can sleep four (for an extra free), while King Premier Rooms offer a touch more space and city views.
Executive Sous Chef Peter Hagerty whips up contemporary American dishes in the hotel's restaurant, while Highball Lounge serves craft cocktails and light bites. And in classic Kimpton fashion, there's a nightly lobby wine hour each evening, perfect for setting the tone for a night on the town. When it's time to unwind, there's a 24-hour fitness center and slew of in-room spa treatments available.
In the Area
Shopping fiends should hit Charles Street in Beacon Hill for antiques and boutiques. Two favorites: Moxie, a designer shoe boutique, and Twentieth Century Limited, which sells vintage and custom jewelry, from Brahmin’s pearl earrings to rhinestone clutches. Or stop in at the central building of Faneuil Hall Marketplace, Quincy Market, which showcases a quarter mile of 18 restaurants and pubs, 44 pushcarts and 35 food stalls serving everything from lobster rolls and clam chowder to Boston cream pie. Get a culture dose with a visit to the Boston Athenaeum, a membership library dating back to 1807, which houses first-class exhibition galleries open to the public. Afterward tuck into the Brattle Book Shop, an antiquarian bookseller on West Street. Or get your revolutionary history where it really happened — inside Boston’s historic pubs. You’ll hit Bell in Hand Tavern, Green Dragon, Union Oyster House, and the Point for some tasty eats and four sample-size Sam Adams beers.
