The century-old palace hotel is the epitome of elegance and tradition, with Viennese Art Nouveau–style facades and interiors, and a welcoming, intimate vibe that has had its guestbook signed by the likes of Mick Jagger and Uma Thurman. The 124 guest rooms and suites are spacious and feel even more so, thanks to high ceilings and terrific city views in some of them. They have sumptuous colors and textures— think damask draperies and striped overstuffed armchairs. The Gourmet Club restaurant has an English-style turn-of-the-20th-century ambience, with an open fire and grand piano, and has been named one of Prague’s top restaurants.
In the Area
The Palace Hotel is in the UNESCO-protected city center, just a few steps from lively Wenceslas Square and the Na Prikope shopping street. Peruse the international luxury brands and homegrown specialists like Moser, which has sold high-end Czech crystal and cut glass since 1857. The Prague State Opera is also quite close by, the most beautiful of the city’s opera houses, built in 1888 and a stage to musicians like Enrico Caruso, Richard Strauss, and Gustav Mahler.
How to Get There
Lovely corner suite room. Overall had a clean and polished feel from the marble bath to the new double windows. All amenities and all four double-double windows actually open all the way! Only minor complaint is that the provided shampoo etc. has a very strong and masculine scent. But there is a drug store next door, so you can always get your own . And I don’t know if it is programmed that way, but I never had to wait for the elevator in my 6 days there. The front entrance is a little tricky for wheelchairs since it is a few steps up to a heavy door. Didn’t see a ramp anywhere but maybe there is one in another place. The breakfast is American style with a little European slant: plentiful and tasty. The breakfast service is worthy of a 4-5 star hotel.
The location is superb meaning you are never more than a 10-minute walk from anything noteworthy for first-timers; and, if you need to go further, the subways and street car stops are also nearby. Around the corner are the main shopping streets and a little further is old town, with plenty of restaurants and tourist shops. And there are a lot of tourists in Prague!
I tried to book a room for the following week when I returned from a quick trip to Greece, but they were sold out. So I recommend booking in advance, especially if you want to nab a suite or better. Overall, great value and obviously would stay there again.
P.S. I did not have such a good experience at the restaurant/café in the hotel, but that is a separate review.
Awesome place in a wonderful location. Staff was delightful. The rooms were spacious. Restaurant had good food. The breakfast was wonderful with live music each morning. Our only problem was the tub/shower. It was high and hard to get into for us older folks. The door didn’t close and the floor got wet. With that being said, it wouldn’t keep us from coming back!
Stayed here as part of a Viking River Cruise extension. It was my first trip to Europe and this hotel was everything I would have imagined. Extremely courteous and attentive staff. The decor was old world and stunning. Rooms were huge and well appointed. But the best thing that I really appreciated was a mobile phone in the room that was dedicated to you. You could make local and international calls for free, and use the phone for navigation when you went out or to find restaurants and attractions to visit. Simply brilliant!
Breakfast each day in the dining room was spectacular. Huge buffet with everything imaginable or you could visit the omelette station for a made to order breakfast. And the dining room itself was gorgeous.
Location was perfect, less than an 8 minute walk to the main square in Old Town, with lots of shopping restaurants along the way. Definitely would recommend staying at this lovely hotel!
Lovely hotel! The staff was very nice and service minded! The rooms were comfortable and fresh. The breakfast and resturant had amazing food! I would strongly recomend this hotel! Thank you, Michaela, Tereza and Zed for helping us a lot!
We stayed at the Art Nouveau Palace during a 3-day extension of a Viking Danube River cruise. The hotel is centrally located in the Old Town area, on a street car line and 1 block from Wenceslas Square. The rooms are spacious and luxuriously furnished. Our package included a daily breakfast buffet which was fabulous. There are many excellent restaurants within walking distance. We highly recommend the Art Nouveau Palace as a great place to stay when visiting Prague.
