Laid-back beach retreat on the Bodrum Peninsula, with a private beach and a diving platform into the Aegean Sea
Dressed down, not decked out, the Avantgarde Yalikavak was made for beach bumming. The sandy beach includes a swimming pier and diving platform for easy access to the pristine Aegean Sea, while a grassy lawn scattered with cozy, oversize pillows is perfect for lazing in the sun. Pearl-white four-poster beach beds (think a pool lounger for two, with sun-dappled curtains blowing in the breeze) offer a touch of romantic whimsy for sunbathing couples. Rows of bougainvillea-shaded lounging sofas, an open-air restaurant and a pool round out the hotel's private slice of seaside. With cool stone floors and no carpets in sight, the hotel begs guests to go barefoot all day long.
Bed and Bath
The Avantgarde's 30 light-flodded rooms have floor-to-ceiling windows and a beach house color scheme of sun-dappled baby blues and creamy whites. All have their own sundecks, often putting guests steps from the beach. Beds are topped with 400-thread-count linens, and bathrooms feature rainfall showers and a range of organic soaps and shampoos.
Sunset over the yacht-strewn Aegean provides an elegant backdrop for drinks at the hotel's chic seaside bar and restaurant. At night, candle lanterns circle the bar, pool and alfresco dining area, where traditional Turkish food is served until midnight. The sparkling sea is best viewed with a cocktail in hand from the bubbling outdoor Jacuzzi. Guests have free access to the sauna, steam room and Turkish bath.
In the Area
A 10-minute minibus ride away, the town of Yalikavak brims with seafood joints, lively harborside bars and streets full of knickknack vendors. During the day a fleet of wooden tour boats depart from Yalikavak for day trips to the peninsula’s best swimming sites. Bodrum proper, an additional half-hour bus ride away, offers a wider array of eateries and nightlife. In a courtyard of historic stone houses, Kocadon restaurant is among Bodrum's best-loved, while the cheeky club Ships Ahoy in nearby Turkbuku is one of the port's most famous nightspots.
