Sprawling spa resort in a secluded cove near Bodrum, with a private beach, Turkish hammam and six restaurants
Tucked into a serene cove with its own private beach around 30 minutes from Bodrum, the Kempinski Hotel Barbaros Bay is a sprawling spa resort in a postcard-perfect setting. Views of the Aegean take center stage and can be seen through floor-to-ceiling windows in rooms and suites, from the six restaurants, or from the enormous infinity pool, one of the largest in Turkey. The exclusive blue-flagged beach and 60,000-square-foot spa (with a traditional Turkish hammam) make it a top spot for couples and families to destress and soak up the sun.
Bed and Bath
The guestrooms are done in a soothing palette of beige and olive, keeping all the emphasis on those spectacular views. Every room comes with floor-to-ceiling windows shaded by slatted blinds and a balcony or terrace, while Superior Rooms also have a sitting area with a sofa. Bathrooms come with granite-topped sinks, mosaic tiling and Molton Brown amenities (in the Grand Deluxe Room category and higher).
The outdoor infinity pool is one of the largest in Turkey. From here you can peer over the private beach to the sea below. The 60,000-square-foot spa really does engage all the senses and features a traditional Turkish hammam. The fitness area allows guests to get active or relax through yoga, Pilates or traditional fitness training — all with views of the crystal-blue Aegean. The six restaurants offer a choice of Mediterranean, Italian and Asian cuisine, while Bar Blue delivers live jazz and cocktails in the evening. For families there's KempiKids Camp and kids pool, which frees the adults to enjoy a glass of vino poolside. Oh, and if you're looking to arrive in style, there's a helipad as well as a private marine docking facility for your yacht.
In the Area
Nearby Ephesus was once home to the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Charter a traditional Turkish gulet for a day and drop anchor anywhere along the coast to take a dip in the turquoise sea. Bodrum is the St.-Tropez of Turkey, so don’t miss the sizzling party scene, which doesn’t get started until very late. Our favorite club is the waterfront Bianca Beach. Set in a palm-shaded stone courtyard beside the Aegean, Kocadon is one of Bodrum's most atmospheric restaurants. Book a table by the gurgling century-old fountain for fresh seafood and Turkish fare.
