Luxe hillside villas with plunge pools overlooking a private beach and the Gulf of Siam on chic Koh Samui
Design blurs the line between outside and in, opening up villas, restaurants and spas to views of Laem Yai Bay and the Gulf of Siam. The overall look is rustic luxe—think teak loungers, rosewood side tables and Thai silk linens, curtains and throw pillows. At the bottom of the hill, guests lounge poolside under the shade of coconut trees, and waves lap the four-mile long powdery white sand beach. Treatments at the spa take place in open-air salas with outdoor showers and tubs. The guest villas are perched on the side of the hill or right on the beach among swaying palms. Each is furnished with a southern Thai touch that blends modern teak and rosewood furnishings with silk accessories in azure, turquoise and copper. The enormous bathrooms are equipped with his-and-her vanities, terrazzo shell-shaped tubs big enough for two and separate glass-walled rain showers. Sliding glass doors open onto patios or decks for al fresco bathing. The living area extends outdoors to wooden decks furnished for lounging, dining and, with private infinity pools, skinny-dipping. You won’t have to go far for a great Thai meal. The casual beachside Pla Pla focuses on fresh-caught seafood and traditional dishes. For something a little fancier, dine at Lan Tania where Thai cuisine meets Italian perfection—try the larb tuna, which is marinated in local herbs and served with cracked rice and chili powder. Sign up for an elephant trek into the jungle and a dip under a tropical waterfall. Back at the resort, let a masseuse work out all the kinks in your sore legs and back at the Spa, where treatments rely on century-old healing techniques and holistic remedies.
In the Area
Nearby is Koh Samui’s chic beachside town of Chaweng, where you can shop for souvenirs or grab a bite to eat at one of the many cafes. The concierge can arrange a day trip by private car to Na Muang 2, a 260-foot waterfall where you can splash in the pools. For more traditional culture, take advantage of the resort’s Buddhism Experience. A guide escorts guests to Wat Phra Yai—home to the golden three-story Big Buddha—and two other temples. Back at the resort, you can book a private sunset cruise aboard a 66-foot boat. Or take a cocktail class under the tutelage of the resident mixologist.
