A great resort with 5 stars services
Reviewed 6 hours ago

My wife and I spent a night at the resort for a short break in early December. Being a Gold Accor member I was given an early check in and an upgrade. The check in experience was great and I felt being treated as a loyal customer. We were greeted by hotel staff I met while we were walking to our room. The television and light in the room were on and had a welcome message to me on the screen. The room must have been refurnished recently as everything looks fresh and new. We went out for sightseeing and found a complimentary bottle of wine and fresh fruit plater on the desk. Being an Accor member for many years and stayed in many Accor hotels in other countries, this was the first time I received such a recognition as a loyal Accor member. We had our dinner at Embers Bar, the meal is above average. Our table was served by Stephanie and Lauren, both of them are cheerful and well mannered, a true representation of a restaurant of a 5 stars hotel. We received our bill under the door in the next morning and found a voucher for a free departure drink inside the envelop, we always receive voucher for welcoming drink but this is the first time we were given one for our departure. This is an excellent gesture from the hotel management. Thanks a lot Fairmont Resort Blue Mountains, you did make our stay very enjoyable.

Great for kids

The resort was a great place for kids entertainment. They have a cinema, a kids zone for under fours and older, a kids pool, and rides! The rooms were adequate. Would have much preferred the cigarette butts removed from my out door area. Most disappointed only with the dining as there was only one place to eat at on a Sunday night and it was booked out until possibly after 8pm. With a two year old and 6 month old and being at a ‘resort ‘ I thought it was very inconvenient. Aside from that we had an awesome time.
Friendliest staff was Moana, the people at the cafe/bar and the concierge. Reception and staff at embers a bit cold.

Farewell to the Fairmont?

I love all things Sofitel so its fair to say when I thought of a weekend getaway with my mom this hotel came to mind. I was excited based on the reviews I had read but now I realise that while some people may find it acceptable the truth is I did not.

So lets start with the positives:

-Great location near Leura Village
-Beautiful grounds
-Staff were always incredibly friendly and helpful (small hick up at reception which I will discuss later)
-Nice views from the property lobby.

- Room was musky...felt like it hadn't been aired for awhile and caused serious sinus issues for me and my mom. Had to go out and buy a can of Air Freshner to try and freshen up the room.
-Room is tired!!! I stayed in room 445 and there was water damage on the ceiling of the bathroom...mirror was chipped...floors not cleaned...stain on sheets and when you open the window you are greeted with enough pigeon droppings to last a life time.
- The pillows were so flat you may as well just lie direct on the mattress!!
- Air con barely worked
-Decor just tired and bleak!!

(Breakfast and Dinner)
-Decided to try the buffet dinner one night and to say we were disappointed would be an understatement. Rice, Ravioli, Roast mmm for the price we paid would expect something more inspiring and certainly seeing flies on the roasts was not inspiring. Not concerned about Food Health and Safety?
-We then tried in room dining and why have a menu on display to be told you don't make half the stuff on the menu anymore? Eventually found something they do make and also average at best. What concerned me is the food was transported to our room with no cover to protect it...so wheeled throughout the hotel for everyone to see, cough and sneeze on? Thanks!!
-Breakfast was probably the better option of the three but food safety standards need some improvement and try and be a bit more creative and inspiring?

-I can sum it up in one word Tired!! Maybe two words Tired and Dirty...they are spending thousands of dollars to build an ice rink yet the building is dirty with cobwebs everywhere, water damage and mold. They are clearly targeting families as there are so many activities to entertain the kids but in my opinion its tacky...pony rides, train rides, merry go round...three big game rooms yet most of the facilities are dirty and damaged as well.
- They also put out Christmas decorations and all I can say is creepy. If you are going to do it...do it right...rather then creepy nutcrackers with broken and missing hands...or strange puppets popping up and caroling.
-They have a beautiful fish tank in reception but cant help but feel sorry for those poor poor fish...crowded and everything plastic in their tank.
-There library is old fashioned and mismatched. Reading material mainly consists of encyclopedia. Lets be honest how many people read an encyclopedia in their free time?
- The billiards room was one of the rare highlights but outside it was a creepy railway train set that didn't work and probably the worst was creepy wooden puppets from a French Circus.

- To their credit the service was generally of a good standard and they were always friendly.
-downside is they never asked when I checked out if I enjoyed my stay...was I happy. They genuinely don't care...and sometimes waiting time at reception was to long causing people to walk off and find answers elsewhere.
-Also if staff members are going to complain about certain guests its probably best they do it behind closed doors rather then in public for everyone to hear.

So to sum it up the Fairmont is a tired property with an identity crisis. You can not be affiliated with the Sofitel and deliver what you are currently providing and that is below average!! This tired run down property doesn't know what it is meant to be and with no consistent theme for decor and strange and obscure things around the hotel they are desperately trying to find something appealing but are failing. Perhaps stop spending on strange things and rather focus on improving the hotel standard for the Adults. This hotel has lost sight of luxury and has become a tacky themepark for kids!!

It has great potential but sadly no direction and that is why I wont be returning. Was I over critical? No I was honest and dont believe it warrants the 4 star rating it currently has. So if you are looking for something luxurious or and Adult retreat this is not for you.

We loved it, kids loved it!

We stayed here for 2 nights with our kids, 4 and 6, to visit scenic world to see the Dinosaurs, and there was so much for them to do, they loved it! There are big games rooms down stairs and an indoor and outdoor pool and spa and they loved the huge fish tank in the foyer! We loved the restaurant which had a beautiful view and the food was delicious! Also the buffet breakfast also great with a beautiful view! They also have a mini train ride for the kids and a movie theater! This hotel has it all!

We stayed one night and the staff were great

We had a group get together here for one night and it worked well. We organised a group dinner and they provided us with our own room for the dinner which was very nice. Renovations were going on but didn't really effect us for this one night
