Love the Fairmont

I had requested a sunny north facing room and was surprised with an upgrade from our Accor membership. We were overlooking the golf course, bed was comfortable and the room was a high standard and staff made our stay so enjoyable. Thank you Mena and Fairmont staff.

Great winter long weekend stay
Reviewed 12 hours ago

This was extremely popular with families over the long weekend, presumably because there were a lot of things to entertain youngsters. Despite the busy-ness we found staff to be extremely helpful to us, giving us consideration as seniors (especially the valet when we first arrived). We required a room with a walk-in shower. There are not many of these and the one we had was quite some distance from the reception/restaurant area. This was ok for us but may be an issue for some with very limited mobility. The room was comfortable and although not on the side with the escarpment views we did experience glorious sunrises. The restaurants had dramatic views over Jamison Valley and the log fire in Embers gave a very cozy feel. Buffet breakfast was hectic with all the families but the food was enjoyable.

Nice Hotel. NOT for Couples.

The Fairmont Resort (M Gallery by Sofitel) is a nice hotel with very clean, spacious rooms and good facilities. Going as a couple over a weekend is not to be recommended however as this is a very family friendly hotel. With lots of games and activities for the youngsters, I am sure it is fantastic for families but if you're looking for somewhere to go as a couple, perhaps this should not be your first choice.
Was also very surprised (and grossed out) to see small dogs in the lobby. This really put me off.

Great Family Resort | Lacks Maintenance | Safety is NOT a Priority and you will need to watch your kids
Reviewed 2 days ago

So, I travel extensively so I can honestly say that this resort is a ‘mixed bag of lollies’ – which includes the kind that you don’t like, nobody likes but are just there to fill the bag up.

The Good
The resort is close to Sydney and is ideal for a family get away where you want the kids to run wild and free. They can do this all over the resort including the Café, Restaurants and the designated “Kid Zone” on level two. So, the resort really welcomes children, this is both a good thing and a bad thing. It is clearly their target market and they have done an excellent job in promoting it as a wonderland for the whole family.
The resort is extensive, has a tremendous variety and plenty of grounds to explore. We loved the outdoor Gym and the grounds in general. The property itself is old but well restored in most places.

The Bad
As there are kids allowed everywhere, there are kids everywhere. Really no haven or sanctuary for mum and dad or for adults traveling without children except for a classy, pricy exclusive restaurant that we didn’t try.

The Ugly
There wasn’t anywhere near enough staff on the weekend that we were there, meaning that the ones on were pressured and stressed. This in turn was demonstrated as many of them were too busy to help, uninterested, non-helpful and just down right rude.
The maintenance on the property is just lacking. Our television didn’t work well so, they needed to move us to another room, and we needed to get keys re-cut more than eight times in a two-night stay. Image getting home late, to find that you have been locked out only to go to reception three times to get keys re-cut, eventually demanding that someone come and let us into our room. Separately, one lift was out of order for the full weekend so a trip to the reception involved three flights of stairs.

The Worse than Ugly
Safety is just not a priority to the management or Board of this property. The fire doors on the fire stairs were chocked open all weekend (due to the faulty lift) so fire was free to spread across levels should it occur. Emergency Exit Lights were missing, broken or non-functioning so that would make it worse. Across the property there were several broken light fittings exposing, what appeared to be live wiring and in the buffet restaurant the soup wouldn’t have been above 45 degrees, so it was in the danger zone for food-borne bacteria (I decided not to eat it).

All in All
This is a lovely property, with loads of potential.

Autumn in the Blue Mountains

We booked two rooms for three adults , a four year old boy and 1+ baby girl. The Hotel has a lobby and facilities that look 5 star but with a 3.5 rate. This Hotel is children friendly with lots of play area, arcade games, an indoor heated and an outdoor pool. It has a carousel and a mini train that runs. Although the train runs only on weekends the staff is kind enough to let my grandson and other kids ride on it. The breakfast area overlooks a beautiful hill. However, the buffet breakfast lacks variety in the hot section. It will be good to have some noodles or rice. The rooms are comfortable with good ventilation. Overall this is a good place for families with kids and for couples as well. This Hotel is a short drive to Leura and Katoomba.
