Tired resort & poor cleanliness
EmmaRo86

Resort facilities definitely showing their age and the bathroom in our suite was unclean upon check in. There were hairs in the vanity, dirt in the bath and the toilet seat wasn't clean. The bathroom was also small in size for a 'superior suite'.

We ate at Embers restaurant only once and found the meals unremarkable - good but slightly overpriced and lacking finesse. Room service meals were the same.

While there was a great range of facilities, the Fairmont had the air of a once grandiose resort that has failed to modernise to the standard of a present-day 4 star resort.

Would not stay again...

Dirty and poor customer service

Stayed at the fairmont for one night in November on recommendation from a friend but had a terrible experience. For the 4-star standard they claim to uphold, the hotel rooms are filthy.

The bathroom had little hairs all over the vanity, toilet roll, bathtub and floor. We asked them to clean the bathroom properly while we were out for a few hours. We were assured by the lady at reception that the bathroom would be 'spotless'.

We came back and there was no improvement so we asked to be moved to another room. They 'upgraded' us to a room with a balcony but it ended up being worse - tiny hairs all over the bathroom in plain sight even right next to the drinking glass on the vanity. The night manager had us sit in the lobby for more than half an hour whilst housekeeping apparently 'cleaned'. They offered us complimentary breakfast which does not make up for the experience we had.

Went back to the room and there were still tiny hairs everywhere. We called reception and the night manager came to clean up the hairs himself. Afterward, I noticed that the towel was he used was completely soiled so clearly the bathrooms floors and surfaces are filthy. We had a look at the bathroom and there was still hairs everywhere. At this point, we gave up. It was now nearly 11pm and we just wanted to sleep after a long day of work and hiking. We had already sunk hours of our own time into fixing this issue.

When we checked out the next morning, the manager on duty was apologetic and said he would get back to us on how we would be compensated for our trouble, given they couldn't give us a refund since the booking was prepaid. I received a call two days later and they offered us a suite at a discounted rate with complimentary breakfast which sounds good but it would mean we need to pay money out of our pocket to stay there. They offered us Accor points to the value of $70 which is only a quarter of the cost of the room. I'm not willing to go back to this hotel no matter what they offer as I have no confidence in any of their rooms, suite or otherwise.

I'm not sure why they thought this would make up for the stressful experience we had, and being deprived of a good night's sleep. In the end we were only able to get partial compensation through the booking platform.

They don't seem to grasp that this is a fundamental health and safety issue. When I pay more than $300 for a room, I don't expect to step on other guests' hairs.

I'm really disappointed in the Fairmont because I had heard good things. It was not clean and the customer service was very demeaning. They clearly don't value their guests. I would never recommend anyone stay at this hotel. If you do, make sure you get your shots beforehand.

We thought this would be a highlight of our very long road trip.Having stayed previously in other Sofitel properties we expected a similar experience. Car parking was pot luck, check-in fairly smooth, Room was very ordinary, with stains on the carpet and no where near the standard of any of the small country motels that we stayed in on the trip there and back to home. At twice the price of the most expensive motel I would have expected a very high standard and would also have hoped for an uninterrupted sleep. The walls must be so thin we could hear everything next door and when their baby woke at around 3am and cried for a long time I was unable to go back to sleep till around 6:30am and then children were noisily running up and down the hallway at 7-7:30am...that was my rest over and done with. I did mention it at check out time and was offered a free coffee to take with me. I did suggest that it might be an idea to put older couples away from young families. Having stayed in some incredibly nice hotels over the years I have to give this one a thumbs down.
