Family favorite between Vancouver and Seattle, with myriad outdoor activities, two golf courses, waterfront rooms and two restaurants
In northern Washington state, around 90 minutes north of Seattle and less than an hour south of Vancouver, the Semiahmoo Resort, Golf and Spa has been a waterfront destination for family breaks, outdoor escapes, golf retreats and weddings since 1987. Given a tip-to-toe renovation in 2015, the Classic and Waterview guestrooms retain their wood cabin design accents (wood headboards and trim, heavy stone fireplaces in some rooms), but now they have a more modern, muted color scheme, updated furnishings and flat-screen TVs, as well as tea- and coffeemakers, mini-fridges and ESA products in the bathrooms. Waterview Rooms have private balconies, patios or fireplaces and views across Semiahmoo Bay of White Rock, British Columbia. Days here are spent exploring the resort’s 300 tideland acres on walking, climbing, rollerblading, kayaking, clamming or kite-flying adventures, so guests fuel up early at Pierside Kitchen, the resort’s harborside all-day restaurant. Open throughout the week for breakfast and a buffet lunch, and on weekends for dinner, the restaurant focuses on local and regional ingredients and classic Northwest dishes. In warm weather snag a table on the patio overlooking Drayton Harbor. For golf lovers, Semiahmoo is home to two 18-hole resorts, Semiahmoo Golf & Country Club and Loomis Trail Golf Club, and there’s a world class spa for post-links relaxation.
In the Area
Take the ferry across Drayton Harbor on the Plover, America's oldest passenger foot passenger ferry, or get a dose of culture at the Drayton Harbor Maritime Museum (open from Memorial Day to Labor Day) and learn about Semiahmoo's fish canning history. Ski lovers can hit the slopes on Mount Baker (around 50 miles away), and roadtrippers shouldn't miss a spin on Chuckanut Drive, a scenic 20-mile drive through Skagit and Whatcom counties.
