Elegant Luxury Modern Spa Wellness auditorium Lobby night

Overview

The Review

From the playful parade of boots that greeted me inside the front entrance to the minimalist slate walls and open fireplace beyond, I quickly realized that the Cambrian was a modern design hotel with a sense of fun. The lobby is a sea of dark gray and natural wood — with a black-and-white cow-print piano. Next to the elevators, the light fixture commands your attention: It’s an illuminated pillow-size bundle of white that resembles a cottonball suspended from the ceiling, slowly bending and swirling over your head.

This subdued mountain resort is known for a family-friendly vibe rather than rowdy après-ski bars. Instead of bars and clubs, you’ll find traditional fondue restaurants and a lovely main street stacked with small-town staples: a butcher, hearty bakeries and the requisite chocolate and cheese shops.

The Cambrian’s 71 guestrooms are soothing, elegant affairs in brown and beige, with Barcelona chairs and thick blackout curtains. There are cowhide cubes that double as chairs, and colorful mosaic-tiled bathrooms. Room size increases as you move up the categories, but the style remains consistent.

Off the lobby the sun terrace and winter garden — a cube of glass that extends out with gape-worthy views – summon you to kick back and play cards or a boardgame, or just gaze at the alpine peaks. The award-winning spa and wellness area has an exterior thermal infinity pool with massage jets and stellar mountain views. Water cascades down one side of the slate walls in the pool area, and the ceiling, of inky-black dotted with tiny lights, resembles a starry night sky. The adjacent steam room and Finnish sauna surround a pristine Bisazza mosaic tile centerpiece. At the end of the day, unwind with a cocktail or a bite in Scott’s bar, where a combination of timber and illuminated blue glass dominate. Après-ski doesn’t get classier than this.

Great Hotel, wonderful views

What a delightful hotel? We had the three bedroom apartment for the family, (no cooking facilities though, but it didn't worry us, there were plenty of options for eating out), it was spacious and very clean, and we had daily supplies of water, fizzy drinks and prosecco. The staff were extremely friendly, breakfast was good, and we had one meal in the bar, which was really good. The swimming pool is fabulous, especially the lovely warm infinity pool outside, the views are fantastic.

Friendly service is possible in Switzerland!

For a long weekend in Adelboden we had booked this hotel. Mostly because of the image of the ‘swimming pool’ and other spa facilities because we didn’t wanted to go skiing this year.
Upon arrival I was pleasantly surprised by the friendly service we received. The very friendly staff helped us very professionally with luggage, car, questions etc. After a quick hoteltour they brought us to our room where even our dog had it’s own place! The room was spacious, clean, and had a nice closet, desk and rv. Bathroom eas clean with nice ealk in shower. Perfect. Everything was very goodm something you also might expect from a $400 room (even if it is in Switzerland)
Throughout our stay the service was excellent. What a breeze to find this professional and friendly staff. From housekeeping, to waiters to front desk staff. Thanks for making our stay so pleasant!

Swimming outside in a well heated pool surrounded by snowy mountains was wonderfull.
The spa (sauna and steam room) were very nice and clean and when you go there around 14hrs you will be all by yourself.

Breakfast was great. Cocktails were great... well everything was great. Except for our hotelroom view. We looked at the busstation... but hey, who cares if you our surroubded by magnificient landscapes and friendly staff who will make your stay unforgettable.
Untill next time!!

I stayed at the hotel with the romantic getaway package and it is a really well thought offer. Prices are high but ok for switzerland.

Reception staff: Very helpful and they even took the time to take us to the room to show us around. Minibar and minibar refills were included which was highly appreciated.

Housekeeping: there was a young gentleman often walking around. He was chatty and helpful, to the point that he gave us recommendations for dinner. Also, when we requested new batteries for the tv remote, he replaced the whole tv within 10.

Pool: probably because it’s winter it was not overcrowded and it was the perfect experience. You are not cold going in and out because you enter indoor and walk your way through the outdoor area.

Restaurant: Besides the fact that the chef might want to reconsider the amount of olive oil in the salad, the sharing options are nice. Main course was cooked beautifully and desserts tasted fresh. The staff in the floor wears a genuine smile, checks on the guests regularly and spends time having a little chat.

Breakfast: it’s not super huge but it has quite a few heathy option which we appreciated a lot.

Room service: it was very quick but that’s were the chef REALLY disappointed us. For dinner we ordered the sharing Axe platter (charcuterie). For 28 CHF we got cold meats from the breakfast buffet that were so dry they were holding the shape they were placed on the platters hours earlier. The cheese was so dry and yellow it was appalling. This was clearly not made to order and it is not a mistake. I worked in hotels all my life and my husband has been a chef for 25+ years. We can tell when a chef is simply lazy and doesn’t want to waste food from the buffet. The platter got replaced but obviously by the time we got it, we had already nibbled on other stuff because we were hungry and it was a comple waste of time and money. No compensation was offered at check out.

Massage: Cannot recommend the tall guy enough. Great pressure, excellent technique and a very kind and polite gentleman.

All in all it was a great stay!

Wonderful!

Just finished a two night weekend stay with my fiance. We didn't want to leave!

The staff are super friendly and very welcoming from the moment you arrive, the decor of the whole hotel is top notch and thankfully it wasn't full of social media bloggers as previous reviews had intimated.

The room was spacious, the free minibar (albeit non alcoholic) was a nice touch. You could sync up your devices to the TV if you fancied watching Netflix in bed. The view from our room was majestic! The bathroom was nice, lovely showers. The towels in the room were a little on the small side, but nothing to moan about. The pillows on the bed were my only gripe with the whole hotel really. They were super long, super skinny and very very soft. Sadly I could really get comfortable at night because of this.

Outside of the room, breakfast is served in the restaurant with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. A great selection too, hot and cold options and plenty of it.

There's a great pool table near the lobby which is free to use and The Axe Bar served nice food and not overly expensive drinks (a pleasant surprise given the location)

The spa is divine. The pool is gorgeously lit to make it super inviting. I wanted to bottle the scent that was coming out of the spa too, it was the best! The sauna and steam area were beautifully decorated, very quiet and serene. They are 'nude zones' which some might find off-putting, but it didn't bother us in the slightest.
The heated outside pool is truly wondrous. The view is breathtaking and the water temperature is perfect. At night this pool is beautifully lit with purple, it's just so inviting. We also enjoyed a couples massage which was one of the best I've had in years.

All in all, a fabulous stay! As a travel agent I shall certainly be recommending this hotel to anyone thinking of visiting Switzerland.

:)
