Overview

The Review

From the playful parade of boots that greeted me inside the front entrance to the minimalist slate walls and open fireplace beyond, I quickly realized that the Cambrian was a modern design hotel with a sense of fun. The lobby is a sea of dark gray and natural wood — with a black-and-white cow-print piano. Next to the elevators, the light fixture commands your attention: It’s an illuminated pillow-size bundle of white that resembles a cottonball suspended from the ceiling, slowly bending and swirling over your head.

This subdued mountain resort is known for a family-friendly vibe rather than rowdy après-ski bars. Instead of bars and clubs, you’ll find traditional fondue restaurants and a lovely main street stacked with small-town staples: a butcher, hearty bakeries and the requisite chocolate and cheese shops.

The Cambrian’s 71 guestrooms are soothing, elegant affairs in brown and beige, with Barcelona chairs and thick blackout curtains. There are cowhide cubes that double as chairs, and colorful mosaic-tiled bathrooms. Room size increases as you move up the categories, but the style remains consistent.

Off the lobby the sun terrace and winter garden — a cube of glass that extends out with gape-worthy views – summon you to kick back and play cards or a boardgame, or just gaze at the alpine peaks. The award-winning spa and wellness area has an exterior thermal infinity pool with massage jets and stellar mountain views. Water cascades down one side of the slate walls in the pool area, and the ceiling, of inky-black dotted with tiny lights, resembles a starry night sky. The adjacent steam room and Finnish sauna surround a pristine Bisazza mosaic tile centerpiece. At the end of the day, unwind with a cocktail or a bite in Scott’s bar, where a combination of timber and illuminated blue glass dominate. Après-ski doesn’t get classier than this.

CLEAN!!! Friendly and professional service. But, the mark of this hotel is the view from the pool, spa and lounge area. Floor to ceiling windows beget stunning Alps views over the valley. If you want to relax apres ski or take in a cute small town, this is a winner.

Ok but.....

Not a bad hotel. Typical Swiss but arrogant. A lot of 'instagram' tourists. Only Swiss plugs in the rooms and if you want an adaptor you must buy one for CHF15! Get your act together and realise that the majority of your visitors are not Swiss but international and require international plugs! also internet speed is slower than anywhere else claiming to be first world!

Unforgettable

We got engaged over a perfect weekend here in early May. The weather was terrible all weekend but we had an absolutely incredible time thanks to the wonderful staff and support they gave us. Svenja and Claudio and the rest of the team were amazingly discreet and had plenty of suggestions to make our stay better. The rooms are very comfortable with breathtaking views over the valley. We stayed in the basic room but paid extra for a south-facing room and it was worth it. The restaurant is very sound and the serving staff there (sorry we didn't catch any names) friendly and knowledgeable. The Spa and Sauna were fantastic (that pool is award-winning for a reason). My fiance - who is often quite demanding of masseuses - found the massage treatment excellent. All in all the hotel went above and beyond to help us have an unforgettably romantic weekend.

In short, these guys do not slip, everything was perfect and we will be back again at this marvellous hotel.

Simply breath taking views from the room!

We stayed for 3 nights at this hotel with a room facing the majestic mountains. Great hospitality. Rooms were tastefully done with a large LCD TV, funky coffee machine etc.
The SPA was simply awesome which catered to all age groups. An indoor heated pool, and an outside jacuzzi overlooking the mountains was probably the USP of this place. Their sauna is also worth a good mention where you could open up those pores in their steam room without any additional charges.
Did I mention that the mini bar is free, where they stock a small bottle of bubbly wine, beer and some ice tea, coke, chips. First of its kind i ever saw. We just had the food at their bar which was spaggetti and salad which was pretty good I must say. There are some good dining options around the hotel as well.
We hires a car to get there but then I sort of regretted that because it was a lovely drive from Interlaken to Adelboden with views of the quaint country side. Though around 55km+ from interlaken, but easily accessible by bus and trains. The bus depot is exactly opp to the hotel, literally 20 steps from hotel. Highly recommend this place if you like some isolation and some great country side views of Switzerland.

perfect stay, perfect place, perfect service
