Fusing elegant Caribbean colonial style with laid-back tropical charm, this 30-suite resort offers a back-to-nature getaway with all the perks of a luxury retreat. The whitewashed, terra-cotta-roofed main house looks onto the pool, with its swim-up bar and palapas, while the casita-style suites overlook either the Caribbean Sea or a tranquil lagoon backed by mountains. Rooms all have private balconies, whirlpool tubs and full kitchens, complete with granite countertops and travertine floors. Dine right on the sand beneath a thatched palapa at the Ocean Club Bar and Grill, or join the locals for cocktails at the beach bar, known for its Sunday pool parties. Just steps away are some of the country’s best beaches, thanks to the secluded setting on the 18-mile-long Placencia Peninsula.
In the Area
Take advantage of the resort’s proximity to the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, the world’s second-largest; a 45-minute boat ride gets you to Laughing Bird Caye Marine Reserve. Or grab a snorkel and explore the 20 surrounding islets, including the spectacular, Robinson Crusoe–style Sapodilla Cayes. Deep sea and bone fishing are big pursuits around here too; bring back your catch for the resort’s chef to grill for dinner. Back on land, hike the highlands of the Belize rain forest near Victoria’s Peak, the second-highest mountain in Belize, and explore the Jaguar Preserve & Cockscomb Basin on a tour that helps you identify jaguar tracks while learning about this country’s incredible biodiversity. For a primer on Mayan history, visit the Mayan Temples at Lubaantun and Nim Li Punit with an indigenous Maya as a guide.
How to Get There
We went to Xunantunich and cave tubing and it was AMAZING!!! Our suite was right on the beach with amazing views and access to the pool! Highly recommend Belize Ocean Club! Eat at the Maya Bistro and get amazing coffee and chocolate in the village!
My cousin and I decided to take a quick trip to Belize to celebrate her birthday, relax, and unwind. This was a great life decision. The BOC staff is what really made our stay. The entire team was unbelievably kind, everyone learned our names, and they went out of their way to provide the absolute best experience. We took a small plane from BC to Placencia and the manager was there to greet us at the airport and drive us to the resort. Fermin and Ronald at the concierge desk made sure we were able to do whatever we wanted - on the resort, in the village, and during the inland excursions. Sergio at the bar kept the drinks flowing and provided much needed entertainment. Lincoln led our small group on a half day monkey river tour and even escorted us into the jungle to see the howler monkeys. He also made sure we received a proper creole lunch. Our river guide was clearly passionate about his job and had an amazing eye for wildlife sighting. The ladies at the spa were life-changing. I highly recommend the hot stone massage especially after a late night of karaoke in Placencia... The food at 16 degrees was spectacular and the pool with the swim up bar was glorious. We stayed in a peaceful 2br suite on the lagoon side and every morning we'd go out on our patio to enjoy our morning coffee and soak in the views. We also used the resort's bikes to go to the grocery store in Maya Beach and stock up our kitchen. The highlight of our stay was the private sunset cruise Ronald organized for my cousin's birthday - complete with champagne, fresh fruit, and birthday dessert. Lincoln and Fermin accompanied us and made sure we had a full night of entertainment on the boat, including with our favorite music. In short, I loved this resort. I felt like I was leaving family. And I look forward to coming back.
Let me start by saying my family was scheduled to stay at the Belize Ocean Club from August 1,2018 through August 7, 2018. After throughly researching belize and places to stay, we selected the Belize Ocean Club due to its location in Palencia and the outstanding reviews. We even selected to come in the middle of a week rather than the beginning because those days were days in which the Belize Ocean Club indicated they had availability. We booked the reservation a month in advance, on May 29, 2018.
On July 30, 2018, TWO DAYS before we were scheduled to be there they sent me an EMAIL- not a phone call an E-MAIL cancelling my reservation. Please see the copy of the email which is attached. The email actually went to my junk mail. If I weren’t a vigilante junk mail checker I would have missed it, we would have shown up in Belize with nowhere to stay. I tried to call the hotel to find out what was going on but to no avail. No one answered the phone and it would only connect me to a voicemail. I booked through Travelocity so I contacted them. After several tries the Travelocity rep was able to get in contact with them. They lied and told the Travelocity rep that they’d tried to call me by telephone- a blatant lie as I have no record of receiving any phone call from anyone at the Belize Ocean Club. They then told Travelocity that they simply had no availability- even though we’d booked weeks in advance and were assured at the time of booking that there was availability. They offered to try and find us another hotel in Palencia. But given the late date, there was only one hotel available and I won’t name the name but it was subpar and not what we’d signed up for.
We ended up having to change our entire trip. Instead of going to Palencia we ended up going to Hopkins Bay. We had to cancel several activities in Palencia that were already pre-planned and lost money. The Ocean bay belize offered no apology or offer for reimbursement of the activities we’d pre-paid for. In fact, I still have not been able to get anyone on the phone there and have only communicated with them through the Travelocity rep. Their lack of professionalism is inexcusable. DO NOT BOOK HERE. You may end up like us, having to scramble to rearrange your entire vacation due to their unprofessionalism and lack of candor. Please heed my warning. Don’t give them a dime of your business!
We absolutely loved our time here. Everything was incredible from the pool, to the food, to the drinks, to the views, to the spa, to the excursion, and the list goes on! However the BEST part? The people, EVERY SINGLE PERSON we encountered was so incredibly kind! George, Freddie, Israel, Juan, just to name a few. I felt like I was a part of the family! Cannot recommend this place enough!
My first time in Belize was amazing! I would definitely recommend Belize Ocean club to more family and friends! This place was nice and clean, and all the workers were pleasant and friendly and helpful!
