How to Get There
We loved our stay in Hopkins. Everyone is very friendly and very welcoming. They all go out of their way to make sure you get the best experience possible. Charlie is an awesome bartender!! Very friendly and is very attentive to everyone. Highly recommend spending some time there. Jonathan was also very helpful and a great employee. We can't thank him enough for changing our tire for us the morning we were heading out.
Everyone there is amazing and so helpful.
We had a great experience and look forward to returning!
What a surprise. My wife and I just returned from a 4 night stay here at almond beach resort at Jaguar Reef. So first impression as we drove up- we were honestly kinda freaked out - you literally drive up on a dirt road that’s in pretty rough shape but very driveable, but just not what we were expecting so it caught us off guard . Also they are doing some work on the entrance so you won’t be blown away with a grand entrance, and it’s a little confusing where to check in because everything we booked was under almond beach but mostly you see
Jaguar Reef signs . Just know it’s altogether so not 2 separate places to check in. Our host was amazing , his name is Patrick and he was great and so helpful. Very sincere and funny. Fun to cut up with and joke around with but also takes care of business and obstacles and follows up ! We initially had a thatch roof ocean front cabana, it was beautiful and literally 25 steps from the ocean . The downside was the AC had issues and it was obviously not working well at all but Patrick immediately moved us into the one next door and unfortunately that one wasn’t much better but it worked for the first night but Patrick assured us he would make it right and move us again until we were comfortable. The next morning he did just that and he even helped us each time move our bags . Made it easy and upgraded us to a place with a dip pool, it was way cooler and was amazing ! Highly recommend star fruit ! The food was amazing here - the wait staff were all great but Reuben and Stacy were by far the best ! I can’t tell you how amazing every single meal was . We were blown away . We stayed at a sister resort of theirs and although the food was good there, it wasn’t even close to The Paddle House here ! Captain Larry is a guy that works the beach & also entertains people . He has a true gift of making people feel at home ! This village of Hopkins is a unique fishing community and very welcoming and we felt very safe the entire trip, even when we biked into town . Prepare yourself that this village has a lot of poverty compared to the states but it doesn’t take away from them being super friendly, welcoming and makes you feel comfortable and safe there . We hope to return again soon .
Super fun place. Dennis the menace also known as Coconut King is amazing. Dennis climbed a tree to get a coconut for our son for a rum drink. Very entertaining. ViVA Belize is so lucky to have him!
Charlie’s Pool bar is the place to be! Great music, beautiful pool with the beach and ocean breeze. Charlie is great and ViVA Belize is lucky to have him! Don’t miss out on this great place. So fun!
The landscaping is outstanding, filled with flowers and raked every morning. The staff was remarkably helpful. They went out of their way to attend to every possible detail and were friendly, courteous, outgoing and professional, especially Mr. Megs in guest services. Our room was large, and luxurious. We even had our own private outdoor plunge pool. The food and the kitchen staff were fantastic. The bar tender at the pool bar, Charlie was fun. There were various excursions available and we throughly enjoyed the ones we did. It is a small resort with ourtsanding service creating a fun and friendly atmosphere that we thoroughly enjoyed.
Our next stop after Sleeping Giant was the Almond Beach Resort in Hopkins. This resort is actually part of a larger resort called the Jaguar Reef Lodge. Again our main highlight was the food, it being lobster season we enjoyed entrees that typically would have costed over $75 in the US. The pool area was intimate with a nice swim up bar manned by Charlie who made awesome drinks using fresh fruits. We took several excursions (snorkeling and a boat cruise) and it was very convenient leaving right from the resort’s dock. We also went to bocawina national park and zip lined which the kids really enjoyed. A nice touch was having bike rentals available allowing one to explore the small town of Hopkins. The only reason I didn’t rate this property a five star, was that all 3 families were in a building (The Colonial) that needs some renovations. The bathrooms particularly showed their age. Overall, I wouldn’t hesitate visiting again, especially if you’re looking for a more quiet laid back resort.
