How to Get There
We arrived at reception, dealt with quickly. We both received a lovely complimentary gift each, which was a very nice touch.
Room was lovely and clean very happy
We headed off to the cafe and ordered some lunch, which sounded lovely. £6:95 for a salmon sandwich, which was meant to come with salad. Sandwich came with just rocket! Nothing else!
I spoke to a lady who gave us a complimentary glass of bubbles(nice touch) our sandwiches came back with salad on. But sad to say it wasn’t very nice. Just on sliced bread!
We went for dinner, which we was looking forward too.
The poor waitress seemed to be waiting on a lot of tables without any help.
Food was tiny portions. Starter of salmon was nice. Mains was lovely. Dessert was horrible which we both left. We were still hungry. So take some food with you.
I decided to look on here to see to see the reviews, so I’m not surprised to see lots bad reviews.
We are still here in our room. We came up for a cup of tea. Shame what’s missing is a biscuit or two.
You are trying but small little touches go along way.
I think whilst it’s ok and for what we paid is a good offer! But if I paid more I would not be happy.
My partner and I stayed here for a long weekend and had a fantastic time. The staff were excellent with nothing too much trouble. The food was top class. Would definitely recommend staying here and will be coming back again.
Great Stay. had a great weekend at Champneys Henlow by myself. Lovely setting and staff were always there to help. Foid was top class. Accommodation spotless. Highly recommended. Feel completely revitalised.
Me & my friend love going to spas and I wanted to surprise her with what I thought would be an upmarket spa and an overnight stay, well I was bitterly disappointed. At check in we were told no there was no bar on site but we could have wine or champagne with dinner, now we don't drink often but had purposely booked an overnight stay so we could have a couple, luckily we had missed the turning for Henlow Grange and noticed a pub on the corner, so we dumped our stuff in the room and off we went. The food in the pub looked great but as we had booked our dinner spot thought we should head back rather than eat there, boy do I wish we hadn't bothered. We got back to our room to change and relax for half hour but we couldn't get a decent wifi signal so my friend decided to open the windows, yuck there was dead spiders, cobwebs, dust & dead bugs!! We decided to head out for dinner and stood in the dining room like lemons, you could see the waitresses and waiters rushing past with their heads down, eventually after ten minutes we were seated, we were offered bread and given half a small slice to eat with the dried up humous that had been sat there probably since dinners had started at 6!!! My friend then asked for a glass of prosecco, nope we don't have any was the reply, she couldn't believe it, there's a Sainsbury's 2 miles down the road why wouldn't you go and buy a few bottles she said, the waiter scuttled off. The ladies next to us were in stitches but that changed when their bread was just dumped on their plates, no choice just dumped. The food, if that is what you'd call it was dreadful, vegetable soup that was a murky brown, beef teriyaki that my daughter described as something you would give the dog, I wouldn't as there wasn't enough to even feed my two year old grandson. Pudding we paid an extra fiver for, and eventually after being offered the other tables dessert they arrived, enough to feed a mouse. 🐭
We thought breakfast might be better, we were wrong, stood around waiting again, others were offered a menu of a cooked choice, we weren't, I pinched one after a lady left.
Disappointed we headed to the hot tub and pool area, we love to sit in the hot tub and put the world to rights like ladies do but it was cold, another disappointment. In the changing areas there were no cubicles and I like a bit of privacy so ended up dressing in the toilets, when we went to hand in our robes the lady said we could stay till 4, not a chance, the only reprieve was that we had a lovely walk around the grounds but then also on the public walkways round the lake before returning for lunch which was exactly the same, waiting for someone to acknowledge us.
On checking out we too found that a gratuity had been added to the bill and a charity donation, perhaps if they had asked before adding it to the bill I might have paid it.
All in all the only friendly face was the lady who checked us in, the rest looked like they should try to find happiness elsewhere.
I never write huge reviews but please take note, if you're looking for a nice friendly welcome and good food then please go to the Crown pub down the road, I definitely won't bother trying upmarket again as it's all about the brand!!!!
I stayed at Henlow last week for one night only. Having enjoyed several stays here over the last few years (including at Christmas) i must admit i was slightly underwhelmed on this occasion. This was due mainly to the standard of the meals , which have been excellent before. However, i have to agree with previous recent reviews have been critical of various things in the restaurant - namely the tiny portions now served at dinner and the very slow service. This must be balanced with the excellent buffet lunches and lovely refurbishments that i saw, including in the Conservatory and the Restaurant.
Special thanks to Julia, the Assistant Front of House Manager who was an absolute delight to deal with. Very helpful and pleasant, as Zoe on the Check In Desk.
