Rehabbed Jersey Shore Victorian mansion turned boutique hotel just a one-minute walk from the beach
This eclectic 10-room boutique hotel on Long Beach Island has all the Jersey Shore perks — beach access, fine white sand — without the party crowd you find elsewhere along the state’s shoreline. Settle into one of the studios, which are outfitted with microwaves and mini-fridges (perfect for stashing beach snacks and drinks), or upgrade to a Two-Room Suite; the spacious digs sleep up to six and feature full-size kitchens. The decor throughout the property is decidedly beachy — aqua and orange linens, whitewashed patio furniture, fresh flowers — but each room has its own distinct style. You’ll find surf art and partial ocean views in Rooms Six and Seven, and earth tones with pops of red in Four. No need to do all your cooking in your in-room kitchen, either. The hotel’s patio has grills available for guests to use; unwind post-beach by grilling your dinner and curling up with a book on the enclosed wraparound porch.
In the Area
Long Beach Island’s 18 miles of fine white sand are just 200 steps from Windward at the Beach, making it easy to run back to the hotel for provisions (and bathroom breaks). Active types can arrange a surfing lesson through South End Surf ’n’ Paddle; lessons take advantage of both the bay and the ocean, giving newbies a chance to get their bearings on flat water before catching that first break. Or you can rent a jet ski or kayak from Polly's Dock and cruise all the way around the island. For a kitschy break from the beach, head to Fantasy Island Amusement Park (which has an elaborate turn-of-the-century-style carousel) or book a sunset cruise aboard the Black Pearl. The pirate ship sails around Little Egg Harbor for an hour — and it’s fully stocked with grog.
