Overview

A beautiful historic hotel near the beach in the centre of Biarritz, a surfing hotspot in France's picturesque Basque Country - breakfast included

The Lowdown

Hotel Edouard VII is as proud of its excellent location as it is its history. Sitting in a prime position near the museums, restaurants and sandy coastline of Biarritz – know around the world as a prime surfing destination in southern France – this true gem of a hotel is perfect for travellers who like their breaks with a touch of culture alongside a heavy dose of heavenly sunshine.
The hotel is set in an elegant and authentically preserved 19th-century building, which was not only the home of the a former Mayor of Biarritz, but also the destination for Napoleon III when he required medical treatments during his visits to the Basque coast. Much like the French emperor, you can also hope to feel rejuvenated after a stay at the hotel, which is praised by former guests for its friendly staff, peaceful atmosphere and elegant décor. The hotel’s fantastic location is also noted in the hotel’s many reviews on TripAdvisor, where it has unsurprisingly earned a Certificate of Excellence.

Classic French atmosphere at very reasonable price

Hotel is located at the edge of the city center in Biarritz. Classic French interior, a little dark and heavy furniture, but good atmosphere. Rooms are fairly modern and spacious. They have a fine wifi and a good bathroom. Staff is friendly and speaks English. Breakfast is classic French and of ok quality. Good value for money.

A charming place, with a great location

A lovely B&B (not more then that) nicely furnished and renovated, with such a cozy atmospehere.

BUt it definitely is not more then just a B&B, it offer a palce to sleep and a good breakfast.
The staff are ok, not many amenities in the room, so you ll have to bring most of things with you (slippers, water, no coffee tea making facilities)

The bed is comfortble and rooms quiet warm.
Location is perfect and 5 minutes walking distance to the centre of biarritz and shoreline.

charming!

French charm outside but dreadful rooms inside

We stayed at this hotel for two nights during a business trip. Our contacts booked us in this hotel because of the positive reviews and its proximity to the centre of Biarritz. We had a horrible stay. I can't really fathom how and why people can be positive about this hotel!

Good location very close to the city centre and the beaches and charming building from the outside but this is probably were you should stay ....

Our room was small, very dark, the bed very uncomfortable (we had the impression that the mattress was made of cardboard), we hardly slept for two nights. The room smelled musty and damp and we could hardly breathe. We had to sit in the room with the little balcony door open so we could get fresh air. The room was noisy, you could hear everything from the adjoining rooms and corridor, that's how thin the walls were. Moreover, there is no lift in this hotel and you have to carry luggage on your own. The hotel also does not offer parking. Needless to say that we had to leave this hotel for a much better one.

Do NOT trust the reviews you read. Dont' let them fool you. The hotel is way too overpriced for the dreadful condition of the rooms and the service you get.
