Hotel Edouard VII is as proud of its excellent location as it is its history. Sitting in a prime position near the museums, restaurants and sandy coastline of Biarritz – know around the world as a prime surfing destination in southern France – this true gem of a hotel is perfect for travellers who like their breaks with a touch of culture alongside a heavy dose of heavenly sunshine.
The hotel is set in an elegant and authentically preserved 19th-century building, which was not only the home of the a former Mayor of Biarritz, but also the destination for Napoleon III when he required medical treatments during his visits to the Basque coast. Much like the French emperor, you can also hope to feel rejuvenated after a stay at the hotel, which is praised by former guests for its friendly staff, peaceful atmosphere and elegant décor. The hotel’s fantastic location is also noted in the hotel’s many reviews on TripAdvisor, where it has unsurprisingly earned a Certificate of Excellence.
How to Get There
We stayed here for 3 nights in a family room. The room was very comfortable, bunks for the kids, a KS bed for us, and a spacious bathroom. The staff are helpful and friendly, especially Laura. You can easily walk to the beach, shops and market. It’s a 7 minute taxi ride to/from the station (~€17) or if you fancy the walk it will take you about 20/25 minutes (though it is uphill from the station). They serve a delicious buffet breakfast in the dining room (€13 adult and €7 child).
If visiting Biarritz again would definitely stay at Hotel Edouard VII.
I booked this hotel randomly before staring a 450 drive from Monforte de Lemos in Spain and I’m so pleased that I did. My room is small, but large enough for one person, with a spacious bathroom and a really nice court yard directly off of my room. The lady who checked me in, was very pleasant and went out of her way to help me. Excellent value for money too.
The hotel is run by very kind and accommodating staff who immediately made us feel welcome and at ease. They gave us plenty of recommendations in terms of things to check out as well as restaurants and places to have a drink. The room itself was very comfortable and featured a modern bathroom. Breakfast was very good; eggs, gateau basque, coffee and teas, juices, mini viennoiseries, breads, jams, and a selection of local cured meats and cheeses. Very conveniently located relative to city center, and just a short taxi ride or bus ride to/from the train station and airport.
We’re touring Spain and Portugal and decided to visit Biarritz before our start. The Edouard VII is a charming hotel in a central but quiet part of Biarritz. The rooms were nice and the reception staff were efficient and charming. Definitely worth a visit.
This small hotel is located near restaurants and the beaches. Charming exterior and interior but a little worn. No lift. Be prepared to carry your bags up steps. Helpful front desk and adequate breakfast. Room safe broken and could not be repaired by management. Room was fine but should you open the window be prepared for mesquitos. But, yes, I would return.
