Lovingly restored neoclassical palace in the Eixample district with an outdoor pool, a swank rooftop restaurant and a buzzy cocktail bar
This five-star heritage hotel in Barcelona’s hip Eixample neighborhood is ideally located for shopping, barhopping and gawping at Gaudí’s masterpieces. Behind the property’s grand honey-colored façade, the marble lobby is decked out with low glass tables and oversize chocolate leather sofas. In the low-lit, midcentury-style guestrooms you’ll find polished wood floors, recessed lighting and pre-Colombian art pieces enclosed in glass cases. The marble-clad bathrooms are equally swank, with large bathtubs and walk-in rainfall showers. Head to the first floor for a peek at the hotel’s own Egyptian art museum, which showcases 70 unique pieces from the owner's private collection. In the evening take the elevator to La Terraza del Claris, a glass-fronted Mediterranean restaurant with matchless city views. Follow that up with a glass of bubbly by the rooftop pool, or opt for tapas and cocktails at the Andy Warhol–inspired East 47 Bar.
In the Area
The hotel has a prime location in Barcelona's Eixample neighborhood, just steps from the shopping thoroughfare, Passeig de Gràcia. Nearby you’ll find museums dedicated to such cultural heavy hitters as Antoni Tàpies and Joan Miró, as well as Plaza Catalunya and Barcelona's lively thoroughfare Las Ramblas. For a shopping fix, you don’t have far to go, either: Luxe boutiques abound in this chic part of town, Chanel and Stella McCartney among them. For some of the best tapas in the city, look no further than the no-frills Catalan restaurant La Esquinica. Choose from chocos (creamy squid rings) llonganissa (spicy sausage) and tigres (stuffed mussels); all are delicious washed down with a glass of local vermouth.
