Towering grand dame with some of Bangkok’s largest rooms, all overlooking the Chao Phraya River
This Bangkok grand dame offers the height of Asian hospitality from a towering high-rise building on the banks of the Chao Phraya River. Thanks to the W-shaped design, each floor contains only ten rooms and two suites, giving the hallways a feeling of intimacy and each of the rooms a full-on river view; some also have balconies or terraces with outdoor Jacuzzis. The varied indoor (air-conditioned) and outdoor dining options range from authentic Cantonese cooking at Mei Jiang (a nod to Peninsula’s Hong Kong roots) to home-style Thai fare at Thiptara or an international buffet and a la carte meals at the River Café and Terrace. The massive spa offers Thai and Western treatments, and the Peninsula Academy offers a variety of culturally immersive experiences.
In the Area
The hotel offers regular boat transfers across the river, where guests can connect with the SkyTrain and access Bangkok’s major neighborhoods. The city’s most important sights include the Grand Palace, an enormous complex of royal buildings and museums; Wat Pho, a temple that houses a giant gold reclining Buddha; and the weekend market at Chatuchak, said to be the largest in the world. To see the city’s more glamorous side, head for rooftop drinks at Sky Bar or the aptly named Vertigo and Moon Bar.
