How to Get There

Maya Ubud Resort and Spa

We have recently booked a 9 day stay at Maya Ubud 6 months ahead for next year. The booking was handled through Booking.com that requires credit card details. As a longtime customer of Booking.com we have provided a fully funded credit card that was already used and stored on their system.

A couple of days later we received a note from the hotel that our credit card was not valid. We were surprised, but provided another - also fully funded and valid - card through the link in their message.

A couple of days later another cryptic message arrives advising us that the new credit card is not valid either. Starting to be concerned at this stage, we have provided retyped credit card details - verifying funds, validity etc - again through the Booking.com link. Concurrently we sent a message to the hotel as well, indicating our concerns regarding potential fraud worries.

NO REPLY was received to our letter, instead a notification came through Booking.com that the hotel cancelled our booking.

Our bank at the same time confirmed that the hotel DID NOT attempt to charge our card and there was NO declined transaction on their records.

This leaves us with a rather uneasy feeling regarding the fate of our two fully funded credit cards in the hands of unknown personnel at MAYA UBUD.

As for the customer service of a so-called 5 star hotel, the fact that the property did not even attempt to communicate/seek clarification with a client who was trying to spend several thousands of dollars on their business 6 months ahead, is a cause for worry in itself...

Having been to Bali many times, one unfortunately is prepared for the dangers of credit card fraud. Never, however, before this experience were we fearing handing over credit cards to 4 or 5 star hotels! Well, there is always a first ...

Simply stunning

My husband and I travelled to Bali for the first time this year and we picked Ubud Maya for the first 5 nights stay and then to move onto beach resort for the remainder of the holiday. We were blown away by the beautiful Maya, we stayed in a superior room and it was huge for us 2, the room was adequate and clean and the housekeeping service was very good. We absolutely loved our stay at the Maya, the hotel itself is stunning and the 2 pools are beautiful, i had a spa with the bath overlooking the river for 3 hours and it was the best spa experience i've had. All the staff at the maya are very friendly and they are genuinely nice people the service was superb. The buffet restaurant i found the food was ok, not blown away but the breakfast was very good, the other restaurants alcarte food was great. We used the shuttle bus to go to Ubud a couple of times whilst there and really easy to catch and it was a bonus. Ubud town is very busy but plenty of places to eat and drink. Husband had his birthday whilst we were there and some lovely flowers and a cake were there in the room when we came in from our day. We had a great time, there was small details that made this hotel one of the best we have stayed in and after our transfer out to the remainder hotel for the holiday we wish we'd stayed at the Maya for much longer. I loved the small touches around the pool with the baskets of towels and no need to worry about fresh towels they were around all the time. the hotel trek was great we had a lovely time walking around, we organised a day out with a driver organised by reception and we got to see the North Bali, volcanoes, rice fields, temples, waterfalls just stunning. We had a fantastic time and would return if we came back to Bali. Drinks and food are pricey compared to town but were within our budget and the quality was good.
The ONLY negative thing about the hotel is the lack of sunbeds there is no-where near enough and we had a room and not a villa with a pool and sometimes found it hard to get a sunbed

Breathtaking view in a tranquil location

Treated myself to the spa experience for my birthday last October.
I did not book a room with the hotel, so only came in as a day guest to the spa.
The staff at the lobby pointed me out to walk to the back of the resort and my breath was immediately taken away by the stunning view.
You need to go down an elevator and a set of stairs to reach the spa but once you're there, it's very tranquil and beautiful.
The masseuse will ask for your preferences - the fragrance of the oil, the pressure strength of the massage, any areas to be avoided, etc.
The massage room comes with a shower room and a bath overlooking the river gorge.
The body massage itself was great and very soothing, the 90 minutes passed by too quickly.
I booked my massage via Traveloka so it also comes with access to the swimming pool and a 15% discount voucher for meals ordered there.
I changed into my swimsuit and enjoyed a relaxing swim (one corner of the pool even have a jacuzzi/jet stream!)
Very very recommended even if you're not a guest of the hotel!
