How to Get There
We (couple, 51+52) stayed at a Beach Villa for 4 nights.
The resort has a strange set up with seperate structures, reception and Restaurant in The Bali Tower, cheaper rooms (Monsoon lodge), 600 m away from the reception, the beach villas, a 10 min drive from the reception and 1 exclusive Residence (3 BR Villa with Butler), which we have not seen.
Transfers are handled by old, pretty beat-up Minibusses, Safary Style with an open air upper deck seating area. Looked a bit like the Jurassic parc Safary vehicles., dirt paths were in bad shape, so the ride is very rough.
The beach is not a swimmable beach, which creates one big drawback, it's too shallow, the only place you can shwim from is the rather small water sports jetty and a rather muddy small "beach" down a dusty path, next to the jetty. Not very pittoresque. No pool by the beach.
Vegetation in that area is rather dry and leafy, not at all lush, this created a rather dreary atmosphere, it is probably a matter of taste, but was not for us. Reminded us of Germany after a long and dry summer...
We stayed in Beach Villa 305, the one with the most amount of trees in front, the dried leaves were everywhere, as you can hopefully see on the picture.
Other main point of criticism is the overall lack of cleanliness, cushions were stained, stained towel on arrival in the villa, the outdoor bathrooms was rather messy...
The resort has a problem with ants, they were everywhere, right in front of our villa the sand was covered with them, and we had them on the daybed, wooden deck, and all over the shower walls.
Restaurants: The beach restaurant Pantai had a nice setting, over the water, good sunset views, the other restaurant in the Bali Tower was pretty stuffy and hot, we only had one lunch there.
Food overall was ok - good, but nothing really special, and quite pricey in comparision to the normal Bali restaurant in the North / North West.
We asked ourselves what this resort is trying to be, Spa Resort, Dive Resort, Beach Resort, hideaway, unfortunately it could not win us over in neither of these categories...
I went on a two tank dive with the resort to Pulau Menjangan, overall pleasant enough but nothing special and too expensive for what it offers.
Animals: We did see deers on the path and on the beach on several occasions, there are also monkeys who invade the trees in front of the beach villas in the afternoon.
Overall the rather dreary vegetation was not for us and the resort vibe did not come across as luxurious but rather forlorn.
Given the hefty price tag (350 USD per night) we would not come back, but depending on your taste the resort may still represent an interesting stop-over option for a Bali traveler who wants to discover this western part of the island (there are more reasonably priced alternatives nearby though).
A great resort built with environmental friendly material. A family with children can also enjoy to stay as they provide activities for family and as an education for the children to appreciate and nurture the nature. Staffs are friendly and helpful. We had an enjoyable stay and I definitely recommend this beautiful resort to anyone who loves the nature.
This place came highly recommended to us by friends. And we were not disappointed. If you are looking for a quiet relaxing stay in and around nature, in an area of Bali that is a bit off the beaten path, then this could be a great place for you. We loved pretty much everything about this place: the welcoming friendly staff, the sounds of nature (birds, monkeys), the pool, the beach, the wandering deer, the snorkeling along the house reef, the offered activities and the good drinks and food. We stayed in a quiet traditional-styled room around the pool and were happy there. What made our stay just that bit more enjoyable was the personalized handwritten (and drawn) notes upon arrival and departure. :-) Thank you to all the staff for the wonderful 4 days we were able to stay there!
We stayed for 6 days in one of the Beach Villas and were so pleased with our choice.
The hotel it self is located within the national park which makes a unique location. There was not many Beach Villas which added to a feeling of exclusivety. The staff quickly knew us and we felt very welcome. The rooms are nice and simple, but don’t expect a Hilton Luxury resort type - the standard is High, but it’s more luxury in the sense that it’s comparably small and feels like a hidden gem from the rest of Bali.
The food is quite nice!
Do go snorkeling / diving - it’s a great place to see a lot of different species under Water.
All in all, we highly recommend the place if you’re searching for a relaxed holiday /part of your holiday.
I choose a remote retreat to celebrate my husbands birthday and was blown away with the wonderland of The Menjangan!
It’s hard to say what was better; food, warm blue sea, impeccable rooms, great horses, incredible wild life, snorkeling, the stunning mangrove forest.
It was also our base to go tracking Ijen in Java and a fishing trip.
We stayed for a week and could have stayed longer.
I have to mention the SPA. It’s just spectacular, specially Rini, that left me wondering for good masseuse for the rest of my trip and probably for the rest of the year.
Also, my partner had some health issue after our track to Ijen and we ended spending a night in hospital. The hotel staff couldn’t have been more responsive, caring and kind to us through all the ordeal. I can not thank enough all of them, specially Gelgel.
We could not have started our trip in Bali in a better way!!
It’s definitely a place I would to go back on a near future!
