Intimate art-filled Ubud estate with its own spa, amphitheater and bewitching views of holy Mount Agung

The Lowdown

An estate turned boutique hideaway, this 20-room hotel has the feel of a private residence, thanks to former owner and collector Hendra Hadiprana’s formidable art collection, much of which graces the walls. The tranquil setting, with views of Ubud’s famous jade-green rice paddies, is a far cry from the tourist bustle of Bali’s beach towns: the daily yoga classes and spa treatments like the signature Chedi Jade Massage or Indonesian cream bath, which combines a deep-conditioning hair treatment with scalp, shoulders and arm massage, add to the Zen vibe.

In the Area

See the fabled Balinese countryside through the eyes of an insider on a walk through the rice paddies and local villages with your butler, who can facilitate authentic experiences like meeting a shaman or eating street food. Visit the nearby Goa Gajah, a UNESCO-listed 9th century temple full of elephant carvings or hit the well-regarded Agung Rai Museum of Art, or ARMA, which houses a collection of significant Balinese artists along with a selection of works from expat talents. Treat yourself to a multi-course French-Balinese fusion adventure at Mozaic, one of Indonesia’s most acclaimed restaurants, or opt for breezy people-watching at Ary’s Warung, which dishes up Indonesian bites like coconut prawns along with European-style staples like gazpacho and goat’s cheese salad.

Unmatchable honeymoon oasis
Reviewed 5 days ago

We decided to splurge on the last hotel of our Bali honeymoon, and wow, I could not possibly be happier that we did, after staying at The Chedi Club. I've never been to a more luxurious, welcoming hotel. From the second they rang the gong to indicate our arrival, my wife and I felt like a member of their family. The staff was amazing and helpful at all times. After realizing that I didn't have a raincoat for our sunrise hike, the staff even offered to call around to stores in the Ubud area to go buy something for me.

The amenities at this hotel are absolutely insane. The food was top restaurant quality, and again, the service was unbeatable. The pool is beautiful, and the entire ambiance of the grounds is peaceful and serene.

I can't possibly imagine a better hotel in Ubud. If you can swing it, Chedi Club is worth the extra expense.

The Chedi is a great place to stay and unwind. From the moment you walk in the door, they cannot do enough for you. The personal touches in your villa are awesome. My butler Bawa is great and the food, the food is amazing!! Highly recommend a stay here. I am a solo traveller and did not feel uncomfortable or out of place!

So amazing we named our dog Chedi

We visited Bali and the Chedi Club 5 years ago on our honeymoon. It was such an amazing trip where we spent 6 nights in a pool villa relaxing and enjoying everything at the Chedi Club. When we returned home we got a new puppy and when thinking of a name we settled on Chedi because of our amazing experience at this resort.

Fast foward 5 years later and we decided to return to the Chedi to celebrate our anniversary. Unfortunately, this time we only stayed for 2 nights and wish it would have been longer. Everything that we loved about this resort was still exactly the same - the food is AMAZING, the service is on point and everything in the resort is beautiful from the grounds to the rooms and the soft and luxurious beds. Each person that works at this resort is extremely helpful, pleasant and they always greet you with a smile. We loved Mr Bawanta (spelling?) who assisted us with all of our needs and made everything perfect.

This resort has not missed a beat in the 5 years since our last visit and we are already planning to return in another 5 years. This time we will be staying more than just two nights.

Thank you to the Chedi Club for making each of our visits a wonderful experience and for inspiring a great name for our sweet pup.

a peaceful retreat amongst the rice fields

We went to Chedi Club when it was wet and not quite warm enough to swim, but enjoyed ourselves immensely. the food was first class- we had the 5 course degustation among other delicious offerings and stayed for 4 days. the morning yoga was well run and offered a variety of styles. As a beginner it was great to see all levels catered for in each class. Ubud is close enough to visit regularly and provides a vibrant place to buy goods, try different foods and appease our cultural curiosity. I suggest staying longer than 4 days, it is so central to the fabulous markets and sights. I would also suggest that visitors take the opportunity to wander through the rice fields and nearby towns for an full immersion in the local lifestyle. the very best part of our trip was the staff- so professional, nothing was too much trouble. we will return.

The most spectacular hotel in Ubud
Reviewed 2 weeks ago

This hotel is truly spectacular. First, the grounds of the hotel are breathtaking. Same goes for the design of the villas (the bathroom is particularly incredible!). Just being on the property feels special and is an experience in and of itself. There are so many cool places to relax-- the beautiful pool being my favorite. Second, this hotel feels very intimate. There are only 20 or so villas so it feels very private. Some of the villas have private pools, but I didn't stay in one. I used the main pool and sometimes was the only person there. Third, the Chedi Club goes the extra mile with all the details and extras. My favorites were the complimentary afternoon tea (which you can have anywhere on the property -- the dining room, the pool, your villa), the complimentary happy hour from 6-7 (delicious fruity cocktails and great wines!), the free mini bar in the room (which basically includes a full bar), the complimentary laundry service (six items a day per guest), morning yoga and guided walks through the rice paddy (also complimentary), and free shuttle service to Ubud. Another great feature of the Chedi Club is you are assigned a butler, who will help you with any questions and services you need during your stay (like making reservations, organizing activities, etc.) I can't say enough great things about this place. I would come back in a heartbeat.
