The Lowdown

Drawing inspiration from sparkling amethysts, this award-winning boutique resort aims to leave guests with memories as spectacular as the gem it is named after. Surrounded by the windswept landscapes of Canggu, tucked behind fragrant Frangipani trees and lush tropical foliage, it’s hard to imagine a hideaway as beautiful as this.
Low-slung roofs shelter the expansive living quarters of the 14 private villas. Exuding tropical decadence, the villas feature a massive master bedroom, spa-like bathrooms, open-air living and dining spaces with marble floors, a large wooden deck and a stunning pool that shines with a mirror-like gleam. But it is not just these luxe features that you’ll be pampered by. Promising a luxury lifestyle experience, each villa comes with a personal butler, complimentary beverages including beer and cocktails, free-flow snacks and a host of other benefits. You’ll want for nothing, except perhaps to stay just a bit longer.
If you can drag yourself away from villa, you’ll find yourself a short walk away from Canggu’s rugged coastline. Free from the rush of Seminyak, it’s a soothing respite from the urban jungle, leaving you free to soak in the fresh air of Bali’s most laid-back and languid districts.
With numerous perks, exceptional service and a stellar location, Ametis Villas (member of TemptingPlaces boutique hotels) has scooped a raft of awards. To start off they’ve received a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence, been named Bali’s Leading Boutique Hotel in the 2015 World Travel Awards, Most Unique Guest Experience in the 2016 Haute Grandeur Awards and Best Villa Resort in the 2017 Condé Nast Johansens Awards for Excellence. Safe to say, you’ll be in well tried-and-tested hands.

The service is excellent, all the staff we met are friendly and helpful. The One-Bedroom Premiere Villa we stayed in is spacious and photogenic. The pool is large and clean. Breakfast is good with nice choices. The location is good, 3-min walk from Batu Bolong beach, with nice cafes and restaurants nearby. Free transport in Seminyak and Canggu areas are provided which is very convenient.

On the down side...you get what you see from pictures but the infrastructure / facilities of the villa are not very user friendly.

For example, the bedroom is linked to the bathroom while the bathroom is "semi-outdoor", as our butler put it, so he advised us to close the bathroom door to prevent the mosquitos from going into the bedroom. However, the sliding door is very heavy, it doesn't slide smoothly and can never close tightly. The wardrobe and dressing area are in the bathroom so that every time u get changed or u need sth you have to open and close that heavy sliding door, which is quite annoying. We also don't see the point why the bathroom has to be "semi-outdoor", when there is only a small opening in the ceiling which allows lots of mosquitos but not much fresh air and daylight in.

Other examples include the wardrobe being quite small and the clothes hanging from back to front (instead of left to right as normal wardrobe does); you can't reach the tap of the bathtub unless you climb up; the mattress seems a bit short (I'm only 160cm tall, with large pillows I can reach the end of the bed); the bed platform is much larger than the mattress so getting in and out of the bed isn't very convenient, etc.

Don't get me wrong, we enjoyed our stay in the villa, and had a nice vacation. Just that these little inconveniences added up and affected the overall experience. If the architecture and facilities could be more well designed and more user friendly instead of just being good looking, I would surely rate this villa 5 out of 5.

One more suggestion, it would be better to install mosquito net at the bed and do some more work on mosquito prevention. Now they provide mosquito coils in the bathroom (we asked for one more mosquito coil holder for the dining area). The first thing I did every morning was replacing the coils and putting on mosquito repellent..but we still got lots of mosquito bites. And the mosquito coils do not smell good. The other villas I've been to usually have nice lemongrass oil and other essential oil burning to keep the room smelling good and at the same time keeping off the mosquitos. Perhaps the management of Ametis Villa could consider working on this as well =)

Amazing place. Better location.

Great place to stay with your partner. Close to the beach and a great surfspot in Canggu! The staff was very diligent and helped us proactively. The food was ok. While it's very convenient we felt it was better to eat out.

Great resort, but our room was too noisy.

We booked the Onyx Imperial Private Pool Villa and weren’t aware there would be music blasting from 8PM to about 2AM Friday - Sunday night. It was difficult for us to get a good night’s rest, even though our bed was very comfortable. Fireworks were going off and street noise compounded the restless sleeping situation. All in all, the resort is beautiful and the staff is great, but just be sure you book a villa on the quiet side. Location wise, the resort is ideal as it’s just a short walk to the beach, restaurants and shops.

Restful vacation

Great place relax and wind down ...with the beach 5 mins away. The beach is best for surfing basic and intermediate. Also great for running ...to seminyak!
Also in the heart of Canggu town.
The villa was luxurious. Met all our needs !
