If “Nobu” makes you think dark interiors and minimalist décor, think again—this hotel embraces the Mediterranean aesthetic with vigor, bringing sunshine in through the entry atrium and using natural materials in light colors to make it very clear that you’re on vacation. Overlooking the Med and with beach access, this gleaming hotel manages to offer all the amenities of a resort: several restaurants, a spa, salon, gym, attentive service—all within easy reach of Ibiza’s nightclubs and shopping. Rooms have plenty of amenities (Nespresso machines, rainfall showers, terraces, even cocktail cabinets) and most have sea views. The service is hyper-attentive, and the smiling staff will do everything from come to your room to mix you a gin and tonic to snagging you tickets to the hottest clubs in town.
In the Area
Nobu’s smart spot on Talamanca Beach, while not the nicest beach in Ibiza, means that going for a swim doesn’t require getting into a car or bus. It’s also a short drive or 40-minute walk to the old town, a UNESCO World Heritage site that deserves at least an afternoon. Enter through the Portal de ses Taules and stroll the steep narrow streets of the historic district, stopping for the occasional ice cream or cold beer before heading back to the hotel to get ready for the night’s party. A trip to Ibiza isn’t complete without a night at Pácha, the OG Ibiza club, which is just close enough to the hotel (about a mile) that you can make it home on foot. The upscale Marina Botafoch, with its slew of high-end restaurants and boutiques, makes a good spot for dinner on the water and a little pre-gaming.
How to Get There
We faced an inexperienced front desk staff and after spending 30 minutes (!) at checkout, where eventually charged twice for the accommodation. They charged full payment while we were at the hotel, and then charged the same amount again 3 days after departure. Be careful, this is obviously a fraudulent behavior from the hotel!
Another annoying thing is that cleaners did not knock before entering the room. When complained, they said ‘you didn’t have ‘no disturb’ sign on the door’. Still, you don’t expect unannounced guests while in the room.
We stayed at this hotel 2 times in previous years, but this year the experience was bad, we will stay elsewhere next time.
We just returned from the wonderful Nobu after a 5 night stay with our best friends. From check in to check out we had an absolutely brilliant time.
The location is perfect! right in the bay and a short walk to the marina and 5/10 minutes in a cab to the old town.
We dined at Nobu on the first night which was just heavenly. We all had brunch at Bay and breakfast and lunch at Chambau on different days - the buffet breakfast is expensive but the variety is incredibly vast and plenty of options for vegetarians and plant based diets. We had afternoon cocktails every day which were generously poured and brilliantly mixed ;) We had sushi by the pool one lunch which was a real highlight!
We had a deluxe sea view which was just lovely. The rooms are long and narrow so don't expect a super grand size unless you go up a level. The showers were gorgeous with great toiletries.
Complimentary water was a welcome addition for our (daily!) hangovers.
The concierge was fantastic - making changes to our plans for us and even running us into town one night when they thought we would have to wait too long for a taxi.
The two pools are lovely - and so pretty. I was surprised that the main pool near the bar had to be paid to reserve with a minimum spend but to be honest the side pool is more private as its not near the reception area - so worked well for us.
Only slight negative was a confusion over breakfast ordered to the room one day and that the yoga planned for the morning was changed to the evening and to tai chi. Very minimal all in all and we REALLY look forward to returning.
We stayed in May 2019 for a full week in Nobu Ibiza Bay hotel (seaview room).
Hotel interior is very nice, clean and modern, the view from the entrance to the swimming pool is spectacular
Staff is friendly, although the staff at breakfast was not fully effective. Coffee orders took sometimes more than 15 minutes to arrive (and with the wrong order). Also at check-in one could tell that reception staff was not yet fully up to speed.
Pool staff and concierge was very friendly and helpful.
Breakfast is divers and good quality but the price is very high compared to what you pay in other 5star hotels.
The location is great. Walking distance to the marina and to the wonderful Fish Shack. By taxi to the city is only 10 minutes.
Regular rooms are very small.
Turn-down service does not happen automatically (which you would expect in a 5 star hotel) You need to ask for it. You can do this by using a very slow outdated tablet in the room. Note that if you do not ask for a turn-down service you don’t receive complementary bottled water. Housekeeping is very reluctant to replenish the Nespresso capsules. We had to ask explicitly. No kettle in the room, despite some tea bags.
Large sunbeds at the adults swimming pool are not for free. They cost 200EUR a day including a sum for beverages. Weird.
They started to clean the beach on the third day of our stay. The beach was full of seaweed. This was done by a noisy tractor that started at around 7am and went on for hours and days. The tractor loaded the seaweed into a truck right next to the breakfast area, resulting in constant noise during the breakfast experience – note that this “experience” costs 38 euro per person…. The smell that came from the removal of the weeds was unbearable and so we decided to rent a car to get away from this. Senior staff could not provide us with alternatives when we complained, no apologies were offered. They could not tell us how long the noise and smell would last (they blamed the Balearan government). It took 3 days and then it stopped but the beach is still not completely clean and you could still smell the seaweed.
Drinks and food are very pricey and there is not a lot of choice on the menu.
The hotel has a Spa which is located in multiple corners of the hotel and hence lacks the true Spa-feeling. The prices for the all treatment are at least 30-50% higher than in any other 5 star hotel we stayed. The quality of their treatments was average, really not a 5 star experience. Guests were offered a 30 minute discount when they book a therapy in the first 24 hours. Although we did this, the Spa management never included this discount in the bill. We had to negotiate during check-out to receive this benefit.
There is no restaurant apart from Nobu for dinner. The alternative is bar food, but that menu is limited.
All-in-all not a 5-star experience, despite the 5-star price level. Ibiza is great but when we will come back we will try another place.
Clean, stylish and modern bright rooms with superb restaurants such as the Nobu and the Mediterranean Chambao. At the poolside, ask for Jorge who'll assist you in finding the appropriate menu/cocktails that best matches your taste. He'll be more than happy to help you.
I spent an hour yesterday, writing a review for this restaurant. Somehow, the cyber gods chose to lose it… I refuse to take any blame. Suffice it to say, we had a great meal on the patio, surrounded by Nobu’s beautiful location. However, it was the exemplary service that will stay in our minds for a good long time. Astrid, our server extraordinaire, was absolutely delightful, and put to rest any doubts that we had after reading some rather curious reviews here on TripAdvisor. Honestly, if she’s not president of the world in a couple of years, we should all be ashamed! (To be honest though, ALL of the employees were warm and welcoming, and made us feel more like members of their family than like a couple of SeaDream cruisers, taking a look around for a potential visit in the future!)
I’m not going to get into the whole thing again, but the story essentially involved us realizing that we had no money, after Astrid had already placed the order with the kitchen. I was horrified! We had clearly been on vacation for too long! The whole story is much more pitiful, but the conclusion of it resulted in Astrid and her friends at the bar reassuring us and figuring out a way to get compensated. (I DO hope that she figured in a nice tip!) THANK YOU to the staff at Nobu’s patio restaurant for being SO WONDERFUL!
Food: I had ordered one of their special Mojito‘s, with a twist. They used a local liquor in place of the rum, and it was delicious. At €17, it probably was on the expensive side, but in no way did I feel ripped off. Considering the level of service and the beautiful environment, I would say that it was a bargain. My husband had a beer… Boring… But also ordered their rock shrimp tempura. I had noticed that the miso cod was on the menu, for many people look for Nobu’s signature dish (Or at least I think it’s one of their signature dishes!). The shrimp bowl arrived, piled high with the tender sweet pieces of shrimp that were coated with a light, non-greasy, batter. Three sauces arrived with the shrimp, and I will be looking up the recipes for those sauces! Delish.
Again, I apologize for the brevity of this review...yesterday’s version was MUCH longer and more entertaining! But I hope that the takeaway is to visit this soon-to-be iconic hotel/ restaurant on the Talamanca Beach...and to say hi to Astrid for us!
