How to Get There
The Marriot is located in the newer part of the city, so-called wealthier areas of this quite poor city. The hotel backs on to a large golf course & are opposite the local TV network station.
Av Revolution is about 10-15 minute’s drive away. TIJ airport is also around 15-20 minute’s drive dependant on traffic. To the main border for driving across to San Diego, it is also only 15 minutes away.
Within the location, it felt relatively safe with some restaurants to walk to.
The room was a suite on the top floor offered as an upgrade. It was fairly spacious with an attached room, with huge TV & various black faux leather armchairs. But quite a dark unwelcoming room with poor level of the lighting. The room though did offer an attached bathroom with shower.
The main room offered a very comfortable large king size bed with Flexi reading lights, an alarm clock with the lightening adaptor to charge the iPhone. Lamps & bedside tables but lack of other pocket sockets close to the bed.
The room also offered a dining table for two along with a US style coffee machine using packets, a large desk with an amble power supply unit. Decent enough for working.
A large TV, facing bed that offered mainly local TV but some US channels like CNN & HBO.
Small fridge below that was empty.
The bathroom is quite basic & small for a suite. Combined bath & shower, that worked ok but was a bit dated. Full set of amenities by Thann, but also conveniently a dental kit, shaver & decent quality Colgate whitening toothpaste is included.
A large wardrobe is also opposite the sink with a safe & ironing facility.
Overall while it was a suite, it didn’t offer much of a wow factor, décor is quite classic & slightly dull. The window was not double glazed & faces the main road, where noise from road can be heard but still some degree of a view of the city. AC was digital & worked well.
The hotel offers a lounge café, large restaurant & if on the top floor one has access to a lounge. This was more of a cafeteria than lounge but did offer a decent supply of complimentary food, plus breakfast can be had here. Only tried room service of which is available until 11 pm. Mexican fajita was very generous in portion but not an outstanding product overall, but service was quick for delivery. Prices are considered the same as hotels in the US.
Leisure facilities include a large outdoor pool with a small jacuzzi. It seemed clean & had some sun loungers. There is also a smallish gym with mainly cardio equipment.
In the lobby, there is also an ATM & small souvenir display cabinet. To buy items like magnets.
Staff is pleasant enough, heavily secure with plenty of security presence both getting into the hotel & in the lobby. All polite though. Check-in/out was quite quick with clear information addressed by staff. Most staff speak English well & are upbeat friendly as Mexicans are.
Overall the hotel options in Tijuana are limited but Marriot did seem very secure place. Saying that it didn’t have that much character in terms of décor but was clean with amble facilities & adequate quality of food. Would stay again.
My trip to Tijuana Marriott was more than I could have expected. The hotel was immaculate, the staff was extremely accommodating, Miguel was always there when I needed a hand. Raquel at the front desk always greeted with a smile! The hotel had too notch security, most staff spoke English, and this stay did not disappoint!
I stayed at this hotel while having gastric sleeve surgery at CER in Tijuana. The majority of patients stay at this hotel for that reason. The rooms are clean and comfortable; the hotel staff are very friendly and accommodating. My only "complaint" is that because patients do stay here, for before and after surgery care, it would be nice if more beverage options were available for the patients to have (Gatorade Zero, Propel, etc.), other than water and coconut water.
